A little tray that you stick all your precious jewels, loose diamonds, etc, onto?

T'other half says it's a loop for magnification. I thought about magnifying but he's just now explained the angle with our magnifying glass! [IMG]

Well done LoL! I'd never have guessed that one.

Just a Q out of curiosity - when does a magnifying glass become a loupe? I use a loupe (a fit in the eye type) for lapidary and fine electronics and have always regarded it as a 'loupe', but I've also got other magnifiers, hand held and on legs etc and call them magnifying glasses.
I suspect it doesn't really matter what you call it, though jewellers being a tad 'posh' will probably stick to the french loupe

We've had a small discussion and agree (which is rare) that a loupe (sorry, spelling before) is like a monocle and you clench it in your eye as opposed to a magnifying glass which you hold. We'll have to Google this at some point, me'thinks!

I must admit I was instrumental in hiring people to work in the diamond mine (which I had the pleasure of visiting in Guinea, West Africa) not in the actual pricing of them. BTW, uncovered my album today and it was a joy to go through ... it it is highest priced diamond mine (per carat) in the world! I have a hunk of kimberlite (from strip mining) smuggled otu of the country and who knows what's in it! [IMG]
