That looks like a woodscrew, is it normally fixed to wood then?

 

No DAG,it's metal as is the entire badge...and in a chrome finish. The vertical bar is just a shelf support.

 

Right then it belongs to a vehicle of some kind?

 

And I've just had a look and reckon the image is "Mercury" Yes,a vehicle.

 

No, no, no .. I actually have one of the previous item, all in wood, and do use it! :D

The current item is a codpiece! or something similar! The head of a sword, perhaps?

Seriously, I'm from a mining family (dare I say South Wales?), it's a remembrance symbol on the helmets?
