    Just seen this, the cap that is under the spring looks as if it has come off of something which must be retained by the shaft lower down out of the pic.?

    The spring looks very small to me, therefore the movement as shown by the wear is small but well used.

    Don't have a bl**dy clue! :D :D

    The cap is only retaining the spring as it always has done. The object is twice normal size..at times it could be with being so! ;) It is in use on week days only and is relocated at weekends.
    There is an pic posted somewhere with the object in it! :D

    Well it looks as if it needs a bit of maintenance then Pal, the retaining pin must be coming out! :D :D

    It's not some sort of hole punch is it? ;)
