    I have to say you have all come up with brilliant ideas..However they aren't right!
    The metal is solid ,not a tube ,and about 4mm in dia'.

    this indeed easy Pal.the metal bar is of course the axel for the centrefugal plate that is attached to it which in turn rotates in order to attract various insects in order to divert there attention from the cakes on the sideboard,simple really
