    In fact no one is correct.

    At this time in its useful life I use it as a gardening 'aid',but before that it stood as a decorative item on our stairs. [​IMG]

    A salt pot? But why that would sit over water, be admired by many, I don't know. But you may have had it sitting on your stairs :rolleyes: and could be using it as a garden aid now.

    SunshineP. Half correct!..it was used as an oversized flower pot on our stairs...but that is not what it was made for. ;)
    BTW,my out-laws come from Berwick!

    Is it an old sewer vent thingy, or is it solid on the bottom?

    A hanging pot for water / soups?
