I was thinking a small pillar type thing

(how exciting to be close, I am normally hopeless)

 

It's not the actual fire, but it used to be a very important 'part' of it.

Gas would have made it redundant..`

 

Aaarrrggghhh is the bars on an electric one

 

or a lighter type thing...

 

Noooo Not a lot of folk have them anymore,even for decoration,and they cost a fortune these days!! :D

what is that thing in the top right then?! im sure its a dog im sure of it! as for the object maybe its a wind bellow thing?! cant remember whats its called but you pump it to let air out to get the fire going more!

Reckon I'll have to give it to you Lady.. ..It's a Fender,which cost a fortune in the Antique shops,but I made this one with the brass off the old windows that I took out of the HSBC building in Wells,Somerset...the finial is off a Bronze handle off a very old window in Oxford.

Isn't a fire surround a fender, Pal ???? To me a fender is a wing on a car! :D
