    Nope, I just opened it to check, and what you are referring to is actually chromed, the gold colour you see is probably a reflection.

    Nope, the object is mainly black, I will post a bit more later this evening, give a few others a shot at the current pic.

    Nope Sunshine, it's not a metronome (nor a garden Gnome)
    @ LoL yes alarm clocks were around but this ain't one, transistor radios were not however.
    There are timing facilities in this item but only doing short periods, & no it's not a cooking timer either.

    I think tansiistor radios were around then ... certainly in America.

    A Polaroid camera?

    That's a bit warmer LoL.

    I was teaching electronics in the RAF in those days, we saw our first transistors in the early 1960s.
