    No, but my late father had one and he said that you filled it nearly up with carbide and then put water in the top container and when mixed it made the gas.

    Very dangerous as any leaks and it could burst into flames.

    Apparently when out at night on a long cycle, if you ran out of water you could just pee in it!!!!! :D :D

    Believe it or not, I used to go pot holing in Derbyshire with a carbide lamp on my helmet.
