    What you see in the pic is not magnetic Marley.

    Some morriss dancers may have used one, but not while dancing.

    When I first started work I would see some every day.

    Lo'L's warm (and so she should be in the Algarve :D )

    Well done indeed Marge [​IMG] [​IMG] :D

    When I first started work I did 'underground work for the government' as a mining electrical engineer and pit deputies carried 'flame safety lamps' to test for fire damp and black damp. The two in the photo came from a pit in Fife that had closed. I took them into safe keeping when I was removing some of the electrical equipment.

    That's a really nice one Nick. Gauze and possibly glass are missing.Though some of the early ones didn't have any glass.
    All brass construction as brass can't cause sparks and big bangs. There are a few sites on the web dedicated to Davy lamps and if you do a search you might be able to find out how old it is.
