Looking good! Mine have been in flower for about 2 weeks, and I got my first yellow flowers over the weekend!

I don't think so Ziggy- mine was paler and didn't seem to have black bits on it - but it was flying away fast! I'll keep a look out and let you know.

    thanks
    Gavin.

    Hi Ziggy

This was the other butterfly. Looks like a Brown Argus? Seemed very fond of the Verbena, resting and moving on to bloom after bloom for long enough for me to get a decent photo or two a few minutes ago!

    regards
    Gavin.

Hi Gavintarrant. I am not a gardener that grows from seed :fingerdrum:.I take the lazy way and purchase plants. Early this year as i was Perusing around Poundstretcher and noticed they were selling 2 pckts Nasturtiums for 70p. I purchased 2 pckts out of curiosity to see How/If they grew:scratch:. they have grown similar to yours.they went mad with long tendrils overstretching onto the paths:scratch:. I removed some of the Canopy 2 weeks ago and redirected the tendrils.. All is well Now .

      Still Prefer Plants.:WINK1:.

I understand nasturtiums are annuals so only last 1 year? Does this mean at some point I have to cut them right back or pull them out of the soil so I can sow new seeds next year? Or do the blooms i now have seed the soil and I leave everything untouched?

I planted these for the butterflies and hoped they might lay their eggs on the leaves, in fact I thought I saw a cabbage white doing this a few weeks ago, so if I cut back I'll lose the eggs. A similar question ap[plies to other plants like my sweet rocket.

      Help please!

      Gavin.

Its up to you. They will self seed loads and consequently come back next year, but the down side is if they are grown from seed outdoors, they can be a bit late to really get going.

I usually leave the plants until the frost comes along and finishes them off. They are quite tender. Even a mild frost does visible damage, and a hard frost just wipes it out.

Once winter has come along and killed them, I then collect seeds ready to sow indoors the following spring. Inevitably I miss some, and so some nasturtiums appear all by themselves the next year, but the ones that did their own thing tend to be at least a couple of months behind the ones I start indoors.

Many thanks - I want to say "thank you clueless" but you obviously are not, leaving me a dilemma!

I have Nasturtium in my front garden, and as the title says, they've gone crazy!

They're probably 5 foot in width across the garden, now.. and whenever it rains they look quite spent, like Clueless says, they are quite tender.

From the plants I have, I've probably collected about 200 seeds, so far.. because I don't want as many of them in my garden next year!
