All this talk and anticipation of what's going to reside in our nest boxes has reminded me that I've got plenty of scrap wood in the garage. It's looks like I'll be making a few more!!

We have been trying to attract birds of any species to our garden for a number of years by putting out feeding containers.

however, we have only every seen pidgeons, magpies and one year we had a robin who visited quite a lot. Last year we didn't see any small birds that I saw. however, the squirrels came. This year i haven't seen any squirrels and no small birds until ......... yesterday my husband put up a nest box in the hope that we might attract some tits ......... well, I was looking out of the window this morning and lo and behold there was a blue tit feeding on the main feed table.:thumb: Do you think it could have spotted us nailing the box up from wherever they happened to be sitting at the time :heehee:

UPDATE - This morning we saw the blue tit again, and then was another flying around outside the garden. Could it be a case of "you build it and they will come". There was also two robins at the same time. I have never seen two robins in the garden at the same time. Even when we had one coming regularly a couple of years ago, there was only ever the one.

I am so excited that the blue tits seem to be checking out our nesting box. They were pecking away at the entrance hole this morning. I have attached a pic of the couple visiting this morning.

I have a nest box with a camera inside also with sound.

At the moment we have a female Blue Tit working like a Woodpecker to clear all the bits of wood sticking up out of the floor, and now sleeping in the box overnight. Last time this box was used was 2 years ago I think what i cleaned it out with ( Armilatox ) was too smelly.

Watched most of the nest building thought we would miss the first egg laid, but no she waited for us to return from holiday. We did miss the young leaving the nest it was over the Spring bank holiday.
