Very sharp and good depth of colour Robert. Another thing the fz7 doesn't do at all well is macro.

 

I got my new FZ45 today.
These are some photos of a Hawfinch I shot through a window.






I used the auto focus. I haven't got around to fixing up all the settings yet.
I'm well impressed with the zoom.
My OH uses a Sony SLR and is so "mega impressed" (his own words) that he's ordered one like mine and is selling his SLR!

I have yet to see one anywhere!

May be they are more common in France.

Yes, we get quite a few different finches and tits on the feeder. It's hanging on the balcony in full view of the lounge.
I'm hoping to finally catch a shot of a Hoopoe, (though not on the feeder!) now I'm armed with my new camera and it's super zoom. Every year I try and fail. They're such skittish birds!

An update now I've had the FZ45 for a while.
A few niggles I've found are that it tends to produce noisy pictures in low light especially on full zoom and over expose whites in 'auto', so exposure needs to be set lower. Other than that it's a pleasure to use.

I must admit on my FZ38 if I am taking a static picture I tend to bracket the exposure +/- one stop. I end up with three images. -1 / 0 /+1 f stop
I sometimes want to use an HDR process using three pictures is the reason.

 

Mandy, my one gripe with my fz7 is the shutter delay meaning any shot of something moving goes out of the frame. I am still thinking of getting the fz45, your pic of the Hummingbird Hawkmoth was good. I couldn't have got that with mine. It appears you don't have quite such a problem with yours.

 

As with most digital cameras, the shutter lags a bit but it's much better than my old Fuji. I just take loads of shots in the hope of getting a few decent ones.
