Just as an add to my previous answer, Zoom lenses have more elements [lens] inside them and consequently the light entering has to pass through them, each time suffering aberrations and loss of light on the way.:snork:

Thanks for that. I kinda figured as much, otherwise it would render fixed length obsolete.

Well, there's definitely a difference, in my opinion, in the sharpness between a Prime lens and a Zoom lens, and that's possibly why in Macro photography the Prime Lens reigns supreme.

I'm beginning to wonder if the word "obsolete" can ever be applied in the photographic world as the "Pin Hole" camera seems to be making a come back with certain people!!:snork:

oH, nothing to spill really. It's just some bright spark decided to make and sell Pin Hole cameras again [you remember making one at School???:heehee: You made a small box out of cardboard and stuck a pin in one side making a hold and then put in a piece of photographic paper and the light coming through the hold made a picture. Well, people are now buying them and also masks [not cheap either] to fit over modern cameras to convert them temporarily into Pin Hole Cameras......why???, I don't know, maybe boredom:dunno::snork:

I have this old Vivitar 200mm, Canon FD fit, which took some nice pics. Would it be possible to change the mount?

There's much more adaptability in the photography world now than there used to be with Third Party Manufacturers playing a great part. The only thing to be aware of that Four Thirds and other small lens camera lenses while being able to be adapted to large sensor cameras would have severe vignetting:hate-shocked::snork:

Well, they're rated as good within the Photographic World. They've got a long history going back to the late 1930's and along the way made cameras and some really good lenses with a set of lenses under the name Series One becoming very famous. The original company has ceased to exist but another company now owns the Brand name and is introducing new cameras. So the lenses belong to the old era. But having said that Sigma and Tamron are the top leading Third Party Lenses Manufacturers right now with a history of excellent old lenses that are still revered and used today.
So, lets put it this way, in the second hand world people will buy Sigma and Tamron first because of their reputation and then Vivitar. So they've have made some excellent lens in the past but they never gained top spot in popularity against Tamron and Sigma.:coffee::snork:
