I'll be test driving a second hand Suzuki SX4 on Monday so any info you guys can give me on this car (pro's and con's) before then would be much appreciated please. I'm fast running out of options on what is comfortable for me as I haven't got full movement in my right ankle. I have to buy on this basis and having sat in this car today, it's a possibility. :)

As far as I know Sheal, they don't ail much. The usual rules will apply of course, make sure everything works and no nasty noises. Check the tyres (should at least be the same brand on each side of front and back, and ideally the same all round) and be very wary about extending any warranty as most of them are not worth a light.

Oh, and check the service history and docs all make good reading

Thanks FC, with two mechanics in my family and a 'petrol head' for a daughter I know what to look for in general..... and with no MOT here on the island that's a must. :) I've not had any experience of this car and wondered if there was anything in particular with this make and model I should look out for.

Suzuki are generally bulletproof to be fair - their interiors can be a bit plasticky so check for busted trim and stuff, and make sure when you drive it that there is no gearbox whine (very rare but worth a listen for)

Good luck, and we will look forward to the photos :)

Well the test drive on the Suzuki SX4 was a non-starter. I managed to get a decent seat position in it but the build quality is rubbish! I felt like I was driving a tin can with holes in it, there was wind noise and rattles everywhere.

Last Friday I drove a Toyota Yaris T3 and that was so comfortable for me that's what I've decided to go for but there's a drawback, there isn't one in my price range available on the island at the moment so I'll have to keep watching the ads for something to turn up. The one I drove on Friday was overpriced, scruffy and had high mileage which is a shame. The benefit of this car is I can drop the seat back a bit further and adjust the steering wheel which pulls forward, so that I don't have to drive with a fully extended right arm. :)

Ah, shame - you see what I meant about the interior though, cheap and plasticky.

Could you not buy a Yaris on the mainland and ferry it over?

They are far superior in terms of build quality than the Suzuki

Yes, you were right about the interior FC. :)

It's not really feasible to buy on the mainland, I would have to take my car with me to part-exchange and the ferry's not cheap. I would also have to stay overnight because of the crossing times, so it all works out rather expensive. Plus, when I get a car onto the island it has to go through a government (like an MOT) and police check and has to be re-registered, all adding to the expense.

Given up on this car now.

We are picking up a Nissan Note tonight and selling our old Scenic for £400.

                :)

We had a Scenic when we lived in Cyprus, the worst buy we ever made, my little
                  Honda had more oomph:)
