Did you know that the law changed a few years ago now so you can legally make your own biofuel, and you don't have to declare the first 2500 litres per year?

I'd have a go if I had a diesel car (because if I did, it would be a sub £1000 old diesel as opposed to a much more sensitive new one), but I daren't mess about trying to brew a petrol substitute for fear of either blowing myself up when making it, or blowing myself up when using it (if you end up with the wrong burn rate or if it evaporates at the wrong temperature or pressure). So in other words, just fear of blowing myself up. Not so bad with diesel because it's far less ready to ignite.

It just infuriates me that we have allowed the Politicians to impose taxes over 3 times the value of the actual article we're buying!:dunno::snork:

Discount or Tax relief on commute would not work, due to complications and liars

I worked for and was employed by a Leeds Company, taxed in Leeds
I live in Fife, my satellite office was in Glasgow, but I worked in Edinburgh/Dundee
My realistic commute would be Fife to Glasgow, 60 miles e.w this wasted two hours of MY time per day and 120 miles wear and tear on the company car, so the company said work from home
I travelled 1800pw business (86K or sometimes 100K a year) We got a new car at 25k so four new cars a year, difficult for the Gov to track really
Therefore I could declare commute legally at either 500 miles per day, 120 per day or 10 if first site visited !
When it came to cash in my wage packet, I do not think I could be so honest :-)

Do away with VED and the Gov would lose the emissions game
Add cost to fuel used, and what would be fair 0.001 pl or 0.01 pl ?

Retired now so 0.001% would suit me fine, but my ex boss what would he do
he would have to steal even more of peoples pensions to replace his Jaguar every year
(I was the oldest and the first to retire, to find the POT EMPTY)

So a good idea to leave things open for abuse, a bit like suddenly we all become self employed and start collecting our receipts from the service station, as many do already and claim that day out by the seaside was actually "work".
