Wouldn't you be better off pulling the plug and asking for your money back so you can get something else instead?

Hi Rosa, Can't blooming believe that - well I can actually. You must be so fed up now:( I do hope you get it sorted, properly, soon. Our local garage has a 2006 magane cabriolet, one which looks fantastic but it is £8900! You can get part exchange but even so - ouch! But they are a proper showroom with a working garage attached which is really handy.

Hope to hear some good news from you soon.

    cheers

Rosa, it sounds like a right chew on. Fuel pumps are surprisingly expensive items on modern cars. Long gone are the days when they were simple mechanical jobs, nowadays they are all precisely controlled with all sorts of electronic gadgetry in them. Supposedly to make the car more efficient and at the same time more secure (they are linked in to your immobiliser so they just won't pump fuel if someone tries to steal your car). The trouble is with every added complexity comes added expense when they fail, hence the estimate you've been given of over a grand.

You are right to demand they fix it before you take it back though. I know I couldn't relax in a car if I knew the fuel pump was suspect. If it fails completely, then you're going nowhere.

The plus side is though that once they put a new pump on, it should be good for the rest of the car's useable life, and you should be able to enjoy your motor in the knowledge that it isn't likely to fail again any time soon.

It is still an awful situation though. Lets hope it gets resolved soon. Its been going on for weeks now hasn't it?

Thank goodnes the light came up in waranaty!!!

As for the paperwork if you reject it, the only hastle will be the registration document, the insurance would be a single phone call and the tax you can get refunded at the post office with the AA the vehicle reg makes no differance since you are covered in any car or light van you drive.

Not sure what id do, thing is after all this hastle can you trust the renault dealership to do the repair corectly.

hi clueless and pro gard, im really upset now i called the garage who has the car and he said richard doesnt want to pay £500 for that part and hes only making £200 off the deal so i told him hes doubled the price of my rover what a cheek i went off it and told him to get the megane sorted now,
my daughters boyfriend worked for renault dealers and his friend owns local renault dealer and hes calling him in the morning and hes going to get it sorted for me and hes getting in touch with the guy i bought the car off so its out of my hands.
this has really upset me and doing my head in, ive had no enjoyment from that car since i bought it 2 days driving of it the rest of the 3 weeks its been in garage.
will see what happens tommorow as my son in law is calling renault dealers and hes said hes not started yet on garage were i bought it, hes annoyed about it all, will let you know what happens tommorow

Let's hope that's it, and that it is sorted by monday tea time. Ask the Renault dealer to put a garuntee on their work.

Whether it is Renault or the garage the sold you the car, someone should guarantee the work. If you take your car to the garage yourself then any work done should be guaranteed, so you should get it one way or the other, especially as a previous attempt to fix the fault failed.

I've been following this very sad saga and just for interest noted down the significant issues as they appeared:

    26/05 Got the Car
    28/05 Had problem with roof
30/05 Had problems with warning lights coming on and starting up
01/06 Problem diagnosed as Air Conditioning fault
03/06 Warning lights still coming on but all seems ok
    05/06 Problem diagnosed as
    (a) Fuel pressure regulation
    and / or
    (b) Fuel circuit fault
    and / or
    (c) EGP Valve pressure sensor fault
    11/06 Sensor checked (replaced?)
13/06 Fault diagnosed as fuel pressure
    14/06 Waiting for part
17/06 Part fitted but problem not solved
19/06 New disgnosis - fuel injectors - waiting for part

Forgetting the cost and who pays etc. it sounds to me like a 'Friday afternoon' Car and even though it's a Renault Dealer who's 'managing' the problem, IMHO you've not been given acceptable service from any of the 'experts' involved.

I really hope that this final diagnosis is the right one and you can get the Car back and enjoy it.

    Fingers crossed for you. :gnthb:

thanks clueless and doogle, my son in law knows his friend at the main renault dealership in newcastle and hes told him that the new part comes into his garage so iff it doesnt arrive there on monday morning hes going up to take my car off them and is going to get it looked at and fixed there, its out of my hands now, my son in law is sorting it as hes used to work for renault main dealer for 8 years, he said when car is ready hes going with me to test car before it leaves that garage as he knows all about these cars, so now i have peace of mind knowing this, i was mad yesterday and have been very upset today never ever been like this over a car,
