    @ricky101 thanks for your concern but I really don't know what to tell her as regards settings and internet providers. I wouldn't know what to say and she wouldn't understand anyway.
    She has a husband and son who might be able to help but that's up to them.

    I have never received an email from her ... I've been in contact with her on a certain garden forum for many years, but I don't look at that forum any more, and she doesn't want to lose contact with me, so I suggested she sent me emails, and that's when she told me she wouldn't be able to send them. She said it in a PM on the forum.

    She did join Gardeners Corner but found it too confusing so gave up ...

      @Michael Hewett I seem to have done that at one time, to gmail, though am usually very careful about what I block (the difference between blocking the email or the domain). It was easy to put right so maybe her son can do it for her.

      Leave that to them and just get yourself another free email. That can then be used just for specific things. I have a few emails. The main one is for socialising, another for officialdom (local council, power companies etc.) and another for buying things if needed (I don't use that much as I'm too stingy to spend money) which is the separate address I give if some sites have an email as a 'required info'.

      Same with me :blue thumb:. I'm repeatedly asked to sign in but never do. :)

      It's easy to get good freebie anti-virus/malware software. No important logins and passwords should be kept on your computer. Like a lot of oldies, I know very little about computers apart from how to hit the keys :).

        I do because it's an easy way of sharing the same information/data/files between my PC and phone. I can see exactly the same photos on both for example. I can also find my book list on both (handy if I'm in a second hand book store) I can check if I already have a copy. Also keep my seed and wants list in case I spot something in a garden centre. Update the list on my phone and it gets updated on my PC and vice versa. If I had a tablet or laptop they would all share the same data.

            I use Roboform for my passwords. It generates humungous passwords and stores them all for me. I have a master password I have to input every start-up and when I visit a site that requires me to log in I just hit the button and it does that for me.
            Doesn't work for the banking sites that ask for a selection of characters from your password.

                Good points from @shiney, but importantly use one special email address just for your online banking.
                You could look at other email providers if you are concerned about Gmail/Google data harvesting.

                If using W10 or W11 most say that Windows Defender is now one of the top performers, comparable to the paid for antivirus suites, so for some of us thats all that needed.
                Malwarebytes also seems to be one of the best stand alone scanners (Free Version) to run, though to date its not found anything as Defender seems to keep it all clean.

                It was originally but there's always room for extra information ...

                I have Malwarebytes free version. The people I bought the laptop from said they always recommend it because it's one of the best anti virus 'things' you can get.
                Sometimes it pesters me to upgrade and buy a version you have to pay for but the free one is good enough.

                I don't do on line banking. I tried it once and it got on my nerves, so I stopped.
