Hi Forget-me-not I'm really pleased to hear that your garden is for your little girl as well as the dog and yourself I think it's more important to tend to a child's needs instead of one's own I mean they grow up so quickly don't they?

I'm sure others are fed up of hearing how mine and Bob's garden has always been child so please forgive me those that have hear of this before.:o

One thing that worked really well for us when our boys were little (they are 6 footers now!) was a purpose build sand box that Bob knocked together for them it was about 10 or 15 ft long by 5ft wide we filled it with play sand and Bob made a cover for it (so the local and our own cat didn't use it as a toilet) the boys loved that sand pit so much and when quite a few years later they had out grown 'playing in sand' it was mum's turn to have it so Bob removed all the sand and replanted the whole area into an Alpine bed and it was very beautiful.

Just outside our back door we had a lovely gravel patio area which was made even more cosy by some trellis work with benches under them (again made by Bob) which gave the boys plenty of room when their pals came round for tea.

The boys had just enough grass room to have their little tent up in summer, a little garden patch for theirselves, mum had some borders which were filled with well'ard plants which is very handy when you have children into ball games I can tell you!

Mum had her own little part in the back garden right at the top enclosed from the rest of the garden behind trellis work with slabs which Bob laid with spaces in between for herbs to grow through and a sweet little seat with a rose arbour over it the perfect place to take a nice cuppa and a good book to.

If you have children I think it's always best to think how one can turn something that the children used into something that can later be used for us 'grown ups'.

Good luck with your garden I hope you manage to get all that you wish out of it.Hel.xxx.
