I get the feeling that is why the update is free, they want the public to sort out all its problems,
nearly all technology seems to work like that these days.

Never buy a new car model, its bound to be rubbish.

Well, Microsoft over the years seems to have lost the plot when trying to persuade the consumer that their technology is user friendly. None of the OS's after Windows 7 have found favour with the outside world and Windows 10 despite all the fanfares and marketing blurb seems to be a further example:wallbanging:.
Now Microsoft is saying there will be no further OS beyond Windows 10 but in reality all the future upgrades and updates will change Windows 10 over time into a different animal.
But, as I said, nothing really stands out as an advancement or startling improvement about Windows 10 and while it's supposed touch screen concept has no effect on how you can use the mouse, it just seems less exact and slower in getting to a file or Library.:dunno:

Buy a qualifying windows laptop from a shop such as John Lewis, Argos, etc. up to 15th November and get up to £100 back if you trade in an old working laptop (needs to turn on and not be badly damaged) https://easytradeup.com/gb/en/pages/tradeup/home John Lewis are offering some laptops with up to 3 years warranty (worth another £100). So why not get a £500 laptop from JL for £400 incl 3yrs warranty, rather than a £300 laptop online and pay just the same amount after purchasing a seperate 3yr warranty? Got to be worth checking out.

Went to the hospital today and they are still using XP.

Maybe they believe in the old saying, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

Well, since I've downloaded Windows 10 it won't recognise my external Hard Drive backup, nor with it recognise my Pentax K5 camera when I connect it to the PC to download images:wallbanging::gaah: So I think it's a case of recovering my original Windows 7 to get back all the functions that the PC had before and wiping Windows 10 off the PC.:dunno:

I found something similar when I jumped from XP to W8, there were a few things I could not do, without actually paying for a download, that were already installed on my old one.

Like playing a DVD for instance.

It stands to sense that they would not come up with something new that did more than the old one did, unless you pay extra for it.
Its called business, and a multi billion pound one at that.

Well, I wouldn't have had to pay for another download on either the Camera or the external backup hard drive, Pete. I have actually have download both up to date drivers for both.....but to no effect:gaah: I'm now going through an option on Windows 10 to "repair" both programs, and if that doesn't work then it's Wipe Out time for Windows 10:coffee:

Well, it's happened. Mine is a Western Digital 2tb external hard drive and everything was up to date. The data is not lost as such but Windows 10 isn't recognising it for backing up.:gaah:

It's not backing up as it should do, Pete, but all the backed up original data is still on it. But because the Windows 10 "upgrade" has failed to transfer the back up function from Windows 10 I've lost the use, at the moment, of the external drive.:dunno:

Dont you have to go down the road of installing hardware?

Well, not yet. The manufacturers of devices like external drives, printers, scanners, and even software programs are trying to catch up with W10 compatible updates......and those should be free.:dunno:
