I've just used a Cylindrical glass about 2.5in diameter and 5.5 ins tall,Just fold a single sheet of newspaper longways to produce a narrow strip about 8in wide and wrap it around the glass, starting at one end of the strip leaving about 2ins free above the mouth. Don't make it too tight as you'll need to be able to pull the glass out of the paper pot when you've done, which is where a cylindrical shaped glass helps. Now push the free 2in edge all around into the mouth of the glass. If you start this where your wrap ends you will find it quite securely held This will give you the bottom of the pot. Finally wihdraw the glass and reinsert it the other way up so that you can use the bottom to squash the paper bottom against a hard surface making iti quite f1rm .Then just fill with compost. It sounds complicated but really it isn't and the resultant pots are remarkably strong.
