I've got a feeling the Building and Civil Engineering one is, its the rubbish scheme I was in for years, and it only provided a lump sum on retirement. Goverment rules at the time meant I had to opt out of that, which was funded by the employer, in order to pay into a proper pension privately.
I've actually given up on paying into a pension these days as I've never had an employers scheme to pay into, and all the private ones I've started have been stopped for various reasons, all goverment related.

I certainly hope pension age doesn't go up any higher for me, I'm totally knackered when I get home these days as it is, and I've got another 6 yrs to go.

I really do think that state pensions should be based on number of years contributions rather
    than age.

JWK my pension pot is less that £30,000 and they are going to start paying it when I reach sixty which is a little way off yet.I am not sure if I just have to pay the tax at 25% as it is a very small pension pot and I certainly wont be in the higher tax band.:snork:

My brother in law knows a bit about pensions so will show him the statement I have just recieved and see what he says.:)

We are thinking of selling up when Mr Kandy retires in 18 months time because the pension he is going to get from his job plus the state pension won't be enough to live on,whereas if I had got my state pension the same year we would we think been ok so now will sell up and go and live in a cheaper part of the country to release capital from the house.Tyne and Wear area looks pretty cheap or we might head for rural Wales:snork:

Already looked at Shetland @Shiney,plus The Orkneys, and not forgetting Mull our favourite Scottish Island as some of the houses are really cheap up there plus we have the bird and wildlife:snork:

We are very serious in moving and are in the process of getting the house shipshape so to speak.Might decide to rent it out and will look into that possibility once we research the Letting Agents fees plus the tax side of things. As we have a home on wheels with all the latest mod cons and central heating the country is our oyster so to speak and we are lucky that we don't have kids to bleed us dry:yes::snork:

Anyway, that Shetland house is far to big for the two of us and I want less cleaning not more:snork:

Those Estate Agents don't seem to have much of a clue on how to market that Annan property:

Is living in Annan their nightmare then?

Can't you do better than that @Shiney.The three bed I am in now is better than both of them:yikes:You've got no taste at all:snork:

Anyway,I keep looking at Somerset,Isle of Wight,Peak District etc,and even fancied Cornwall but it is more expensive to live in all those places than where we are now:biggrin:

                Hi Kandy, :heehee:

I was looking at the price more than anything else. You are likely to find it a bit of a struggle to get as good as you have now without going completely out of the way.

I did spot a new, five bedroomed property, all mod cons, in walled grounds for £70,000. It's in a beautiful area, quiet, lots of trees, good soil for growing. It's in an area I know on Zanzibar. :heehee:

I get my first pension in January when I turn 50. Back in the day when I first took it out I was 25 and thought 50 was ancient and I wouldn't want to work past that date. If I had stayed with National Grid and stayed in that pension I probably would have been able to retire on it in January but alas I left and moved on.

Don't coppers get their pension after 30 years service? Knew a copper who retired at 50 and bought a farmhouse down in Wales with his lump sum. Nice.
