Oh gracious how on earth can your neighbour look after 16 cats? I only have one, he makes enough work! The house must be in a terrible state with all those cats!:cat-kittyandsmiley:

LOL Beckie76, your assuming they keep all 16 in the house all the time. Some do not, and some cats do not like being inside. I have had up to 10 cats and only 2 come inside. The others live outside in heated cat houses, they prefer to do that. As she said the 16 use the gardens for their litter box, tells me they are outside often. Presently I am down to 6 cats, 3 of which love to come inside, however, they do not have the run of the house, but mostly stay in the garden room, and us a cat door to leave at will. All my cats have been with me for about 10 years now. And each is very healthy and happy. And my house is not a state.

They aren't looked after at all, they clearly haven't had their vaccinations and haven't been toilet trained. The house is disgusting! Cats are not pack animals and to keep 16 is less than ideal!

Please inform my 6 cats that they are not pack animals. Seems they did not get that memo. They love sleeping near each other, and follow each other around. And every time I make my garden rounds, I am expecting to find the 6 of them following me, and saying near.

Actually im pretty sure they said on the cat programme they can be both

It depends on how they live and if they live with siblings

So the farm cats in the programme do live in packs and help with hunting and kitten care etc

But town cats tend to be solitary

Mine are a bit of both not totally solitary and will sometimes pack up with nextdoors cat for example

A cat from down the road was the other side of the hedge and my ginger one hissed at it then the black and white one went up and stood next to the ginger one and so did the tortie. Then next doors cat did and they all stood like a gang then next doors cat went round the hedge to scare the other cat off.

I use to have a local un neutered male come and protect my neutered girl cats he would come and sit in the garden with them and scare off any other cat that came in the garden. Dont know what happened to him tho he was always covered in cuts but was really friendly

I have been watching the social antics of my cats for years. They are a cohesive group. They all accept each other as part of the group. If an solitary new cat tries to enter the group, its all hell breaks lose. But, if the solitary new cat gives off just the right ESP, or vib, or something, then calmness gives way and he is accepted, so happened to one of newest unfixed male who entered the forbidden circle 3 years ago, he did it the right way (what ever that was to the rest of the body). Yes, there was a little bit of back arching, hairs up. But somehow he knew the key . Anyway, after 3 months, and he kept coming back, he is now fixed and now part of the group.
BUT, for the most part 99% of the time, I will see two of my (fixed males) chasing away a new cat back into the woods from which it came. The balance of them, are all related to each other. I wish I could find the video showing them all following me down the garden path, its so cute.
By the way, all my cats (except the newbie) started out feral. Untouchable, they now are calm, but only around my husband and me, very scared of other humans. And maybe that is a good thing, as other humans can be harmful. They live in a wonderful situation, with 3 acres of property , and woods surrounding them. As all are fixed they don't care to roam much further than my furthest gardens.
