Hornbeam. You should get your self some Flora Proactive to help with your cholestrol problems. My husbands cholestrol went up to 6.4 and the Doctor put him on a low fat diet, though at 11st 2lbs at 5ft 8" wasn't exactly overweight for his height.I joined him in eating the same spread though at 5.2 mine was classed as ok.His went down to 5.2 and mine dropped to 4.8,which I have been told is fine.He does suffer with high blood pressure for which he is on medication, mine is 130/68 which I have been told is excellent for my age.We find like you that walking is a great pleasure, and try to do some every night and weekends,in between hill and mountain walking, and gardening and allotmenteering.

A lot of people don't seem to realise that drinking to excess as well as a high fat diet with little or no exercise, can contribute to heart problems.Sometimes people can feel on top of the world without realising that they have high blood pressure, which left undetected or treated can lead to heart attacks or strokes...My dad never visited the doctor because he looked and felt fine, until he collapsed with a stroke. He died 5 months later aged just 59. I have just done the age quiz, and with luck it says I will live to be 87....I can't wait. [IMG]

Welcome back, Kandy. I'm sure you are nice and rested after your lovely break away. It's quiet here at the mo, however, because our Rosa has chosen to laze on the beach in Goa and eat lobster rather than talk to us .. no taste whatsoever! :D

It's funny, Kandy. When I used to come to Portugal for holidays I was always tanned ... well I go sort of golden because of my colouring and my hair "strips" drastically. But since we've moved here I keep in the shade! Love my tea in the morning on the kitchen patio though with the morning sun.

I'm sorry you had and still have such bad weather ... that's one of the reasons I left there because I have / had SAD syndrone for years.

    Nice to see you back.

There are other things with the same stuff, KF - I've been using the new orange juice with the plant sterol in it, which helps. Nice to see you back, btw! :D

I love walking, and only wish I was able to at the moment, but I'm not. When not confined to the house, I walk for an hour with the dogs, go to work, doing physical work all day long, then take the dogs for an hour's walk..... and thoroughly enjoy feeling fit. I have been known to play badminton afterwards..... Once you'e used to walking for an hour or so, going for a lot longer isn't a problem, you get into the swing of it. I've frequently walked 18-20 miles in a day, and that was hill-walking, not on the flat. Trouble is, if for some reason you can't do it for a spell, you have to adjust your food intake to cope, or those pounds pile on!

LOL,I find that in the winter my hair goes darker, then in the summer it goes really blonde and streaky.People think I have had highlights put in.Unfortunatly I am now going silver as the wrinklies put it,so will have to reach for the bottle :D I too suffer in the winter months with feeling down, but when the sun comes back round I start to feel fine.I would love to live somewhere warm, for my arthritis if nothing else, but I have problems with getting the other half on a ferry let alone any other form of transport :(

Dendi, haven't seen the orange juice yet.Mr Kandy tried Benecol spread to begin with, but that was over £3 a tub,so switched to the proactive one. Thanks for the welcome back btw :D

Miraflores,I would prefere the sports car at the bottom...sex on wheels :D :D

I shall have to sort out some of my mountain photos to show you what I have achieved over the years, though we didn't get the three peaks done in 24 hours :D and that is from someone who hates heights...Believe it or not before I started all this walking lark I used to be 6ft tall :D

I've been getting the orange juice in Tesco, KF, it's Tropicana who do it. I expect it's in yours too, but it's not conspicuous that it's cholesterol-lowering thing.

    Love the pedal car, MF!

If anyone else wants to join in, there are 3 of us about to start on the big weigh-in on Monday morning!

We're not "dieting", just eating sensibly, taking sensible exercise, and skipping the snacks...... for all you lot (particularly DAG!) who say dieting doesn't work... I quite agree, and don'tdo it, but it helps a lot of people if they know there's a weigh-in time each week - keeps you focussed!

Anyone who would like to join in - PM me!

Dendy, for those of us that are not so interested in the weight, are you going to take waist measurements as an alternative?  :D
