Lovely photos, Nick! Now all you need is for me to get round to sending you the amelanchier, etc! Can't do anything about the knees, tho'! Pass on my sympathy to Mrs Pal!

it looks a lot nicer than the fence my neighbours have put up..theirs is a mixture of old ..new and recycled..on tatty old bricks..i look after my fences and i hate having their eye sore looking at us ..so i have tried to hide it as best as i can thank goodness for the elderberry tree its growing fast and hiding a lot of it..if i was staying here i would put my own fence up in front of it..a nice one !!your fence will soon fade as the one i put up on the front garden has had to be stained this year as it had faded allready...in less than 12 months..its not very nice to have scruffy old fences looking at you..they spoil the garden..and as much as i like the wild look i do like some parts to look cared for..

We call them botrill bushes and yes they do a good job. I went one step further and replaced them with black sambuca (same family) which grow equally quickly but don't seed and spread so much, however you are probably quite happy with wild variety.

I bought a fantastic black one, forgot its name as usual, then I went to a fantastically cheap nursery and saw another one called "Balck Lace" £2.25 I am such a fickle tart I just had to get that too even though I did not know where to put it. It was a wee thing but grows real quick and now makes a splendid screan. Never tried taking cuttings. I have a gold one too but it has not done very well - I should move it really it is by tall well established yew so not really a chance.

:D A necessity of life to hang out the smalls Paladin - and notice you have 'signed' your work of art! :D

O/H often puts the date on things as well as his initials (paths, fences, walls etc).

banned from my garden, shortly after I moved here. Preferred to clutter indoors, to spoiling outside.

:D Paladin, do you mean that rustic work of art? :D

Well it must be about 20 years old and has been very well used by the birds , and the cat. They appreciate it!

I agree with Fran, but then there's only me so less washing. I hang things over bushes in summer, lavender and rosemary are best.
