    Every dog has his day.

Ours went on longer than most, and could have continued, but we threw it away.
    Its called free trade.

suppose it all depends on what type of work you are referring to ....

I'm a qualified mechanical design engineer ..... my field is engines and mechanical componets etc ... There is not much work around my area here in the UK in this field there are some permanent jobs, but the money they pay is not worth doing the job....

there are a few contracts in London, but it costs £55 a day to park your car at the train station and pay for yout train journey .... add that to the fact that the contracts are not long term, and it's not worthwhile doing those jobs .... if I were a structural or civil engineer, I would have a better chance of finding work, but the pay is also not worthwhile .... oil/gas is the best and there are some cracking contracts on rigs and in places such as Aberdeen

Industry in the UK is having a hard time, as it works out much cheaper to import the components from China

same as South Africa now .... many of the design jobs are contracted to India .... they design on 3D CAD .... email the design drawings and one or 2 engineers check the overall concept, then pass the detail drawings to checkers .... there are no mistakes as the designs are done in solid modelling on 3D CAD

so .... where they used to hire 24-30 contract staff.... they now have 8 max.. and they do not have to pay thousands monthly on the 3D CAD licences ......

the savings are huge ..... and thats whats happening here .... its cheaper to import than to make .... and if you are a small company, you would be a fool not to import

as for the Euro .... it is doomed IMHO .... Greece will be the 1st to get booted out .... many Greeks don't want to be part of the Euro no more

Germany may also shock, as they are tired of sponsoring and bailing the PIGS (Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain)

The problem lies with the fact that all these countries lost their money printing presses and have to borrow money and pay it back with interest .... the banksters are getting rich and the poor countries are bankrupt

The UK were clever ..... they joined the EU but refused to take the Euro currency ..... now they still have their money printing presses and can print money Zimbabwe style

In your PIGS description Dim, you have "spared" Ireland. Was that by accident or design? Only, my daughter resides in the heart of S. Ireland - Ballyroan and I can assure you, life is pretty hard there too.

the proper was they describe it is PIIGS which includes Ireland, however, I think the UK will secretly help Ireland

and latest news on China is that they are to stop buying government debt in Europe .... they are sharp businessmen and know when a ship is sinking .... They are also masters of the gold market and have been stockpiling for a few years now

Dim, how could they do it secretly without others knowing about it? Surely, the Irish aren't gonna be so naive as to think the little leprechauns left it under a toadstool? Please!!
As to China, they are very sharp cookies, I do agree there. Their incredible history bears that out,

This joke, according to a reporter on the World Service, is currently doing the rounds in Athens:

Angela Merkel arrives at Athens Airport. 'Occupation?' says the customs official. 'No, just a holiday', Ms Merkel responds.

Nigel Farage and UKIP all they way :blue thumb:

That guys face at 2.16 in the video is a picture lol.

Watch out for the hegelian dialectic being played with this crisis. I wouldn't be at all surprised that the solution to this problem that is pushed by the EU parliament will be more centralisation of money and power.

With the likes of George Osborne telling everybody not to panic - you'll only make things worse, it's becoming reminiscent of the beginning of the 'Credit Crunch' only on a much larger scale and with Greece replacing Northern Rock. Which country is going to be the first 'Leman Bothers'?

How long before we see queues of Greek depositors outside their banks trying to get their Euros out?
