for the record i do agree with much of the feedback, we need to find a way to present info members wanna see, and allow them to filter out clutter they don't

Have a few tricks up my sleeve ;)

But don't you find that the users there are mostly looking for help/support and there's no one really to give it? I found that with several forums I joined to give me support for my mental health problems and found there were more new members making threads asking for help than people willing to help. All a bit one sided really and no help to me...

I'm feeling much better than I was but still have a long way to go. I've had a few setbacks lately that have got me down but am learning to brush them aside and carry on.

Being open about it is one of the hardest things to do online rather than in person but also one of the most useful things to do. Once you start to be more open about them you are showing people that you're not made of stone and then you find many people become more understanding and open up about their problems too.

I know what you mean but that's not the case with the forum I was referring to, which is why I joined that one in particular.

          Very hard!

What's coming out from several posts above is the therapeutic value of gardening. A 'closed group' (dunno the correct term) board could/might be useful for members (Admin's permission required for access) wanting a more private discussion amongst fellow gardeners/sufferers. I'm thinking I've seen something like this somewhere else but can't remember where.

No need to reply here, just 'PM' a GC staff member if that would suit you.

I've spotted the New Gardeners section only minutes after logging in tonight - good idea :dbgrtmb:

For what its worth, I agree that a little less clutter would help - mainly by lessening the available 'boards' by grouping stuff together (polytunnels, greenhouses & tools all together for example maybe?)

I also agree about the random photos - I am no 120mb broadband, and even for me they can take a second or two to load (I suspect that is simply due to general traffic on the net); additonally, they are not as clear/inviting now as they were a year or so ago (before the last big update)

Just a suggestion - might it be an idea for some posts to be made to this thread by admin/mods (or should it be open to all?) suggesting possible groupings to lessen the number of sub-forums, which would allow everyone to click agree or disagree to get a consensus of opinion?

Just for info: I have set up a WATCH on the "NEW Gardeners" forum, hoping to try to spot new threads and thus provide a great customer experience for newly arrived clients ... SORRY! I thought I was doing a PowerPoint Presentation to the Marketing department for a moment!

                  You get the idea :)

I didn't even know you could watch an entire forum until you mentioned it! I won't place a watch on it, as I my knowledge is relatively limited - however, I will make a concious effort to visit the forum daily/regularly even if it is only to say hello to newcomers.

Above the newly placed 'New Members Introduction' forum it says.....'No questions please'. A new member has joined and asked a question with no introduction of him/herself, this is a regular occurrence. In my opinion the wording needs a bolder display. :)

I agree that the 'No Questions Please' doesn't really get the message across. As that statement is negative we should change it to something positive.

It should read something like 'Introductions Only, Here' and should have a link alongside saying 'Questions Here'.

Doing away with negatives always makes things more attractive and friendly. :blue thumb: :)

I agree but to most of what you said but I seem to remember reading somewhere that the average web browser wants to reach the page they want in certain amount of clicks (I think it's 3) so I personally would make it more direct.
