Not many Newbies?

Just found this Scrungee:

Just a quick question for all 'New Members', How did you find GardenersCorner ?
If it was via a search engine (Google, Yahoo etc), what search terms were you using for GardenersCorner to appear, and how far up the rankings were we, 1st, 2nd, 10th etc ?
I would really appreciate replies, as this way, I can tune GardenersCorner to attract more people who have our same common interest.

Yeah, I think that is an issue. Works fine on forums frequented by Geeks talking about Techie subjects

Threads that are Tagged can then relatively easily provide a list of "May be of interest" associated threads - so there is a spinoff benefit (assuming any threads get tagged of course!)

 

Prefixes differ from tags as they are a set list (selected by admins) and when using a thread a user must select one which best matches their topic

example imagine a movie forum has prefixes for ratings (u, PG, etc) the user would pick which matched

imagine say tropical gardening was merged with general gardening (example)

[Tropical Gardening] I want to grow a pineapple!
[General Gardening] How do I remove Zigs from my Garden?

 

So is that like:

Fill in Textbox with your "post" and then choose a "category"?

I think in a lot of ways that is better (particularly for Newbies) than navigate to appropriate forum and then click New Post

Must admit, I only use the separate forums if i'm starting a new post like in the fishing section or members gallery. Rest of the time I just look at the "Latest Posts" thing.

 

When I mentioned TAGs earlier what I was actually thinking was:

Only ONE New Post page / form

Write the Subject and Content and then choose "something" that indicates what it is about. I said TAGs but actually I think that CATEGORY (aka Forum) would be better.

Of course it very much depends on what is easily doable in Xenoforo or is available out-of-the-box.

Another suggestion is to hide the "Poll" fields - just adds to how complex the page looks. (I was thinking of a DIV around it that is hidden and a DIV with "Add a poll" that SHOWS the first Div and HIDES the second (so poll form fields always there, just temporarily hidden).

That's sorted that one.

I see there's now only a single row of 5 random pics on a laptop screen, but on a tablet (where space is at more of a premium) they still wrap around onto a second row.




Is the 'Solved' marker on the ID board new?
