    You mean the one with the heart-shaped leaves or the one with the berries?

    Thanks. Bah! Hope it's not another ornamental tree, it's bigger trees I need! I guess I'll know which one it is when the bark developes a little. At the moment its mainly grey with spots and striations, but is that a bit of whitishness at the base? If I squint, maybe. Perhaps next year it'll be easier to tell.

      Birch grows fast enough. Its also pretty tough. It also forms a symbiotic relationship with a certain colourful fungi (fly agaric - the classic fairytale toadstool that the pixie and elves live in, and not without good reason, given that its an extremely potent hallucinogen and quite toxic, so best keep an eye open for it).

      I love Silver Birch - I think it's a most elegant tree and it's fluttering leaves give it a hint of delicacy, when actually it's quite tough. I'll keep my eye out for the pixie homes!
