I could have sworn that I'd posted in this thread when I first joined :dh:

You've done a sterling job with the front and the patchwork lawn doesn't look too bad either :thumb:

I can't wait to see it when you start planting, it's going to be fantastic!

*Nursewhen wonders if there are awards for tenaciousness as her quarrying enters its third year * :wallbanging:

OK, so now it's all been dug, it's time to get some topsoil!

    image.jpg

5 bulk bags of mixed loam and organic matter, yum :gnthb:

I got to work and then there were only 4

Then my fence and gate fell down, so there was a hiatus while I got them replaced

    image.jpg

    Then there were 3
    image.jpg

I must have done one in my sleep! Now there's 1

I had dug the far circle manually and I though it was a shame that the other two circles had lovely top soil while the far one still had the original top soil. So I decided I'd dig over the far circle again and remove some sub soil and put in the final bag of top soil. Hooray! the far circle has already been dug over once so it'll be easy.

6 bricks and two flagstones later and I'm wondering where the hell does all this stuff come from? So I leave you now with only 1 half of a circle to re-dig and fill with topsoil.

P.S all the cats in the neighbourhood love the new giant litter box and are coming for miles to enjoy it:cat-kittyandsmiley:

Hi there youngdaisydee! Good to see you again.

I don't know if I'll get much planting done this year. I want to put a stone edge along the lawn and the box hedge will probably have to wait until October as I think they sell the bushes bare rooted.

My back garden has completely grassed over as I forgot to mulch it last year, so I need to give that some attention now. Oh it never ends!

Well done NurseWhen - thats a good soil depth you're getting there. It would be a shame to leave it unplanted this year and like you say its a target for cats, so I'd be inclined to stick in a load of cheap annual bedding plants - maybe direct sowings from seed would be cheaper. I know its extra work, but if you leave it bare then weeds will grow in it anyway. Just a thought, and 10/10 for effort :gnthb:

Thanks JWK, that's a great idea, I'll put some seeds down (then the postman might stop taking a short cut across it)

Well at last, after 3 years of quarrying, I've reached the point where I'm actually planting plants! :yho:

first of all, I put a nice border on the the lawn. Just a plastic lawn edger, then a single layer of blocks. I bought carpet stone from B&Q (blocks of stone attached by a web of plastic) and cut it into strips so I could do the border quickly and easily. We'll see if in six months it looks lke a pile or rotten teeth, but for now it looks nice.

Next I planted up my middle, summer bed with Crocosmia - Emily McKenzie, Rudbeckia - Goldsturm, Gaura - Passionate Blush and Perovskia - Little Spire.

Today I added two Cupressus - Stricta and planted two late summer/autum perennials, Anemone - Queen Charlotte and Crocosmia - Gorge Davison in the spring/autumn bed.

I've also put 4 little Chamaecyparis - Ellwooods's Conifer in a square round both of the Strictas. the idea being that when the prerennials die back in the winter, I'll be left with the formal shapes of the conifers. I also planted loads of tulip bulbs in both circles.

I don't intend to do much else until the autumn when I'll be adding the box hedge. :)

P.S. My cats are very unhappy that I've put plants in their toilet. k-l

Thanks Jazmine. It does feel good to finally have a garden after all those years of rubble. Still a long way to go though :)
