Its been grim today. Windy again the large pot of dahlia David howard is rolling around the garden again :gaah: think I am going to cut them back and remove them, they are finished now for this year.

Its hardly stopped raining hard since dinner though, Red flood warning on the river Irwell down the road all the way through the valley, the river level was 0.4 metre at dinner time today to 2.5m at 2.45pm according to the environment agency. I been down and had a nosey and it not far off breaking it banks, fortunately I live on the hillside.

We have a big green plastic bulk bag on the patio , blown in from somewhere !
I hope it has blown all my leaves into the neighbours gardens . With the shape of my garden it usually self clears 50% of the leaves , very handy :snorky:

Darn, Brian's gone and Cuthbert is on his way now.....reckon to be twice as bad as Brian:gaah::lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Gone a bit crazy now and cleared the rest of a pretty big border......lobelias, salvias, astilbes, astrantias all chopped back. Still plenty to see but it is time now to put this area to bed.:) Time too to make changes but, apart from a couple of plants, I think I am happy to keep things as they are:)

The idea of naming storms is getting out of hand.
They are just the usual autumnal gales that we have had for years, but now some bright spark decided they needed to be named, in a similar way to hurricanes, completely stupid idea IMO.:snorky:

Didn't realise you were near West Bay @Zigs - Arthur's is my nana's favourite restaurant, and firmly entrenched in our family folklore!

Brian mostly passed us by here; windy and rainy but not too bad. When it comes to ominously named storms I'm personally looking forward to Storm Larry...

I agree with Pete. Let's face it if it hadn't have had a name most of us wouldn't even have known he existed. We'd have just thought it was a bit windier than usual.

Not really, pete, the days of the UK just getting Autumnal "Gales" are over with Climate Change becoming more acknowledged. Hurricane "Ophelia" is the first Hurricane in the Atlantic to swing East and move North along the Eastern side, but it probably won't be the last and it might mean we in the UK are in the sights of more than Autumnal Gales.
Storm Brian should have weakened before it hit the UK but actually gained strength before hitting the UK. We've also, on the West side of the UK, had consistently more Cloudy weather indicating more moisture in the atmosphere and moist air is the fuel for more Hurricanes and Storms.
Naming Storms might seem irrelevant but in today's world, information and media news are King and possibly such naming gets the attention people who have more "important" things to do than worry about bad weather........and therefore it might just save a life or two.:dunno::coffee::snorky:

I agree Ophelia seemed to take an unusual track, but it wasn't a hurricane when it hit Ireland, I dont think it was even considered a tropical storm.

As for good old Brian, nothing unusual about a sudden deepening depression coming in off the Atlantic, I seem to remember quite a few, one in particular seems to stand out, when was it now??:scratch::scratch:

                          Errrr, 1987, I think, 30 long years ago.

Not convinced storms are any worse than they have ever been.
There will always remain the possibility of the worst ever storm but it doesnt necessarily mean climate change.
I remember the experts saying our summers will be hotter.....not sure about that....and drier. Now they are saying our weather will be wetter.
Reminds me when some locals set up the experts with their crop circles.....the experts descended and said categorically they were caused by UFO's. :lunapic 130165696578242 5:
