Oh No Jamaica..!!!

    Hi Maksim,

    I agree, hotspots wouldn't be my first choice of where to live but its difficult to move if you were born on one. Man has chosen to risk the danger often because of the good fertility of volcanic soils.

    No where is 100 % safe. A volcano can form any where, it only takes a shift in the hot currents in the mantle. We have had hurricanes in Britain, one in 1987 brought the whole south east corner of Britain to a halt.

    There was also a great storm in the 1800s that washed a ship over the Chesil beach & broke thru & destroyed most of the village of Fleet (The place where the novel Moonfleet was set)

    There was also a tsunami on the south coast that washed out the coast road and swept thru Weymouth killing lots of people.

    I've been in a couple of earthquakes too, fortunatley only door rattling ones.
