I have lettuce, chard, parsley and kale all growing in the raised bed. Amazingly, no sign of slugs at all. That's certainly very unusual considering the extremely wet weather we have had in the West of Scotland. But this morning, the earth moved and an enormous toad showed its eyes just above ground. My neighbour later told me that they have several baby toads in their garden.
I presume that is the reason for a clean veg plot?

It is, I hope , a coreopsis. Flowers will be mostly red, I hope. I'm not sure whether to cut it back or leave it.

I'd leave it. It has not got much left to work with ... and has suffered enough. :) I've only attempted coreopsis once ... and found it was on the munch list.

          Thanks @ViewAhead . I'm sure you're right. I'll leave it in peace.
