Yeah sorry to confuse you I meant the water channel under the wheel not the channel running to it.

The old water channel that ran to it I would making into a path, so you could then walk from the source to the wheel.

I'm assuming the wood for the paddles is probably oak or some other kind of hardwood. I wouldn't throw any of it away yet as I've seen some people get some nice bits of wood out of it. Probably not enough to repair the wheel, but you could sell them on maybe or make use of them elsewhere.

afraid all the timber has had it,some "most" paddles you can just poke your finger throu
was softwood and creosote, still bet thats not been replaced since new over 100 years.
Been having a look about for wood quite fancied using oak but £4k just for the paddles would have been nice "must put a ticket on". The sensible option in larch have a quote for the lot £750
its going to be like an itch you can't scratch

You could cut costs further by only cladding half of the wheel. If you were to fill it up with water or soil you could then have the wheel fixed at a certain position as you won't see the rest of the paddles. I presume the 4k quote was for brand new oak? Have you tried the reclaimed route? Me and the OH never by brand new oak (except for my carving work) and the price is a fraction of the new stuff.

Board having to hang about near the phone courier hassle trying to deliver tyres for another project.
turned wheel hamster style on the outside thou
                  [IMG]
came across this patch of moss if that was blue and white flowers that would be one look, scraped the moss of and bagged it for ron

This part of the wheel was in the water/mush water line now vertical, the tar type paint has done a really good job, i know the wheel has not moved for 18 years, the paddles in the water are in the best condition? still smelt the creosote as it came out

Obviously the paddles are going to need some work mr c but all the metal parts of the wheel look in pretty good condition. :) Do you think they are and what about the mechanism within the mill itself?
