Here's two of my favourites (both have two versions that I know of):

    The first:
(Religious version): Let he who is without sin cast the first stone
(Atheist version): People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones

    And:
(Religious version): You reap what you sow
(Atheist version): What goes around comes around

Blind man on a galloping horse will never notice (if you were fussing about someting you were wearing)
what goes around comes around (if someone did something hurtful)
a stitch in time saves nine
why put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
If someone hasn`t got a smile give them one of yours.
It never rains but what it pours.
Slanting rain won`t last but straight rain will.

I can remember these sayings from childhood.

My version of this one is slightly different:

"Why do today what you can put off til tomorrow".

Hi Lizyann. Your Last Old Saying" Slanting Rain Won't Last But Straight Rain Will".

Its True. We have Had Torrential Rain with 70 mph gales and the rain is Horizontal. it does not last for too long a period ,the wind Ebbs ,then we get Persistent Straight Rain which lasts for hours:mad:. so the Old sayings
do give a logic.:D . All we have to do is Decipher The Old Sayings.:rolleyespink:.

All Kippers and Curtains. (trying to look posh but just the same as everyone else)

Red hat, no drawers. (not sure, I think it was something to do with the oldest profession:heehee:)

If "ifs" were horses, beggars would ride. (Quoted to us kids ad nauseum)

    All from the East End:D

    :loll:
Heard a similar one from my Great Aunt many years ago:

    "Red shoes, no knickers"

She lived in Hounslow, so maybe it's slightly different to the west Cajary.

Gem, in military parlance that would mean "look what's coming, nothing behind you is important".
That would translate, in everyday life to, "what's happened has happened, there's nothing you can do about it". Look to what is important now.:WINK1: [hr]
"Mutton dressed as lamb". Not sure that's relevant nowadays as the "Mutton" is usually far more interesting than the "Lamb". Not that I know, but someone "told me":heehee:[hr]
"The female is more deadlier than the male." Any of you guys been through a divorce.:heehee:[hr]
"East is East and West is West and never the twain shall meet." I think that was my dads excuse for not liking "foreigners". :WINK1:
As I remember, that was quoted in Parliament.
Don't think the G'ment would be happy to say that now.

The watched in-box never receives the email you're waiting for.

Or, the watched kettle never boils.
