Thank you @JWK I'm going to try and buy loose ones. There's a garden centre near here that always sells loose seeds and bulbs. I may go next week to see if I can get any. I'll bring a few more than I want for the raised bed, to put in the sink.
I'll make a note of the name you mentioned and see if they have them there.

I bought some Senshyu onion sets yesterday. I'll have to tidy my raised bed before I plant them.
They were sold loose in a local garden centre, and I got 25 of them. That's enough I think.

I've just been planning what to grow next year, I don't sow them till the end of february.

Has anyone grown "white sweet spanish" before?

Hopefully I will have better luck with germination

I grew walla walla before and its the same, doesn't store. I just picked them to use fresh mainly. They were certainly sweet and also reached a fair size, made the best sliced onions for burgers I've had

I was going to try zebrunne shallots again for my storage onions, they can grow big if you give them space too, so less fiddly to use than small true shallots

I used to grow zebrunne and agree its a really nice seed raised shallot, well worth the effort.

I was thinking of Walla Walla if I get round to it next year, but maybe just a few.

Thank goodness there's one company here that sells onion sets other than Stuttgarter! I much prefer round onions as there's so much waste with the flattened ones. Found some 'Setton' by mail order :hapfeet:
They're in, along with Jermor shallots and the garlic. Broad beans and peas to sow this afternoon, hopefully before the rain arrives tomorrow.

I've used sets for the last three years or so and always grown Red Barron.

Managed to get a few garlic in the ground earlier, I just use some of the bigger cloves from my plants that I grew this year, its a variety I got from a garlic farm on the IOW 5 years ago.

I bought some Senshyu onion sets but only now have I got around to planting them.
I planted them in my raised bed, but just pushed them in where I could find room - raised bed needs sorting out but can't be done until the spring.
What I am wondering is, can the onions be moved later on, when the raised bed is more organised.
It doesn't really matter because they will be fine where they are, but I thought the raised bed would look neater if they were moved in the spring.

I'm not sure about moving them Michael. I have done so with spring planted onion sets when I start them in trays with damp compost. They don't mind that but the root system is only just starting. You might get away with it depending on their size in the spring, the worry is transplanting when they are well established might make them bolt.
