Good Afternoon @wiseowl, yes that dreadful thing called work :roflol: Since moving I've dropped from full time to a 2/3 days a week on rota so not so bad and more time for gardening, anyway just home and eager to answer your questions

        1. Would prefer fragrant as its a place we pass everyday so I think it would be perfect and if Mr AB likes the smell we may have won him around too:heehee:

        2. Colour...Bright and cheerful like me :loll:

        3. Mmmmm that's 'Double Dutch' to me, :roflol: I will go on the Internet and have a look at the differences so I'm more knowledgeable!

        4. Height, I have 2 tall ones, not sure what type they are at the moment and then Absolutely Fabulous . The one to the right of the photo is about 5', the one to the left is about 5' 6 and then there is absolutely fabulous in the middle about 3' not sure now it's in the right place? I'd like to introduce under planting if you could recommend what would mix well

        5. Measurements ...About 6' wide x 9' long x 3' at the narrowest which buts up to a hedge. The red brickwork flooring from grey slab to soil is 1'

Hope this helps :) and thank you

Good evening @Apple Blossom well lets see this is what I usually do I plant rose bush's so that each plant receives maximum light and air. This not only cuts down on disease, it also gives you room for cultivating, pruning and spraying. Bush types require a minimum spacing of two feet, but 30 inches is prefered. Spacing between the plant and edge of bed should be approx. 20 inches.

Lovely roses @ARMANDII.....I'm still doing homework on them at the moment and have had a good journey placing them around the garden, first I met a Buxom Beauty who was standing next to Neil Diamond, but there was a wiff in the air of Sheila's Perfume, when asked, he went a Whiter Shade of Pale as next to him was the Dutchess of Cornwall and a Lovely Lady, Ice Cream is everywhere, Mamma Mia, Keep Smiling it's a Fragrant Dream....There a lot to think about choosing roses for the garden :thud: fantastic rose names though!

Good Morning @wiseowl.......it's official...... I'm hooked on roses :wub2:

I've drawn out the area and will only be able to put 2 roses into this area, I saw a beautiful arch yesterday at the garden centre (on line will be cheaper ) and thought a climbing rose would compliment the area

                      image.jpg
In real terms it looks like this

                      image.jpg

I love Sheila's Perfume and was wondering if a taller one at the back would be best suited? Mr Lincoln, Claire Austin looks lovely or Radiant Perfume oh my! there are so many and all so lovely, I can see project two coming into focus :roflol:

The marker to the right is where I'm thinking of putting a climber, can't believe there's one called 'Tess' :doggieshmooze: :heehee:

Would Emanuelle (Leaping Salmon), Crimson Glory or Belle de Londres be suitable?

Thank you for helping me it's very very appreciated :)

@wiseowl thank you for all that information, I've just moved the markers around a little and think Sheila's Perfume will be lovely at the front and managed to get more than 15" from the grass.

I'm a bit confused on the taller ones, I've just moved the marker for that too so should be ok for the walk way thank you.

Are there any tall ones that you would recommend?

:)Good afternoon @wideowl, I agree .....having looked and read about them I want all of them :heehee:.

I made a list up last night and Simple the Best is on my list, a name I won't forget .....liking Tina Turner.

I think I struggle with size and visualising them in the garden. I do want a taller one to carry the back theme as I think it will go well and I can put some under planting in, I've cut a piece of string and from centre think one will be ok, I suppose my lack of confidence come from inexperience.

I like the tall one I have now but feel disappointed that its petals fall off before you can enjoy it, if you know what I mean, I think I'm looking for a tall rose which it not just beautiful, fragrant but can be admired for a little longer. :)
