Good morning @Apple Blossom when you are ready just ask away we are all here to help each other;)[/QUOTE]

Good Morning @wiseowl, thank you, the sun is just coming out !

The rose is at the back of the house in good afternoon sun, no wonder it is doing well. The trellis, not sure if you would call it that is very old and broken. I have cane trellis which is much prettier but not sure if this would be strong enough or the correct type for a climbing rose? What should I use to tie it in and how? Your advice would be helpful before I start ;) sorry for so many questions

Good morning @Apple Blossom my friend :smile:would the trellis be free standing or attached to a fence /Wall.A photo of the location would be very helpful if that is at all possible my friend.

This is the method I usually use on a wall/its stronger ,lasts forever less expensive and is more unobtrusive than a trellis/but on saying that I do some times use a trellis depends on circumstances

    [IMG] Vine Eye

Buy some strong wire and a set of vine eyes from DIY store. These are screw fixings with a stem and round eyes on the end through which you pass and stretch wires to which you loosely attach your climber. You can buy tensioners which will stretch the wire taught or you can just pull it tight using a pair of pliers and then twist it to secure it.
You need to set the wires horizontally on the wall and space them at 12" to 18" or 30 to 45cms apart going upwards. You can then train the stems of a rose:smile:

    Trellis

Wires on the wall/ this is only my personal preference

Hi, just taken some photos, thank you for all the information, very useful. I have seen your wire method around the walls of the house here and there, one for a honeysuckle which is nicely grown back after a good ' pruning'.

      image.jpg

I think it has been tied in with string yuk!

      image.jpg

And look one has opened, but fear it hasn't had much chance as its leaning against the wall. image.jpg

I have purchased these.... Only because I thought they were neater and maybe easier for me to use but I very much like your ideas and maybe a job for Mr AB at the weekend :)

Good morning @Apple Blossom The photos are excellent my friend, thank you for them, I fear that the last trellis the one above this post will not be strong enough, just my personal opinion of course, could I respectfully suggest that the existing trellis is to near the window unless of course you have no objection to your beautiful growing partly over the window(Horizontally)of course where your Rose is does limit the position of the trellis, and I do find that Rose have a habit of growing on the inside of the trellis when its away from the wall ,I would if putting a new trellis on the wall for your Rose

This is only a approximate position and I took the liberty of using your great photo, hope you don't mind:smile:

That's fantastic Wiseowl or with your permission Woo?:).

I agree, it did cover the whole window and was left to grow up through the guttering. I think your advice is perfect and maybe this picture further away will be better showing what a good position that is. And I think maybe the wire method may be better?

        image.jpg

I'm not sure what the plants to the left are as I'm on a waiting game to see what materialises and will then make a decision of what to do with them :)

This is what it looked like when we moved in.....

@Apple Blossom, you have already made a lot of progress in your garden, you should be very proud. The transformation between those two photos above is brilliant :dbgrtmb:, bit by bit little by little you will have a gorgeous garden :dbgrtmb:.

Good after @Apple Blossom just take it easy my friend, cracking job ,is that a standard Rose tree,I would respectfully suggest that you remove those two canes near the base just gently pull them off, don't cut them off or they will grow again my friend;)

Good afternoon.... Not sure what rose it is but I will as your suggestion pull the side ones out, thank you :)............Done :blue thumb:

I wonder if I could ask for your expertise, I have been digging a dead root out and having got to this stage I'm worried that the small rose is a new growth from it, can I cut the root? Will the one shown survive? Or am I best just pulling all of it out and purchasing some new ones on your recommendations :)

As I am not there and I can only go on what I can see on your photos,I would say remove it carefully,,but is it possible to follow the root or is it to deep, just to add your climbing Yellow rose looks like "Golden Shower's"

Always a cuppa and piece of cake here if you both are passing this way again :dbgrtmb:
