Concrete dye is available to buy. Have a look on eBay there are loads of different colours available. I'm interested to see how this turns out, it's a great idea PP.

Thanks John n Rusty, I have been thinking about the colour/finish, tho for the next two weeks I've not got alot of time to put into it (other than "Thinking" lol), a few moons ago (before 9/11), myself and a couple of the other lads on the shop floor were messing around seeing who could make Thermite, anyway long story short I won, its the chemicaly powdered rust that was hard to make, you would think making rust would be easy, it is, but not in the volume required, I've got a small bag left in the back of the cupboard....

The photo shows it a lot darker than it is, the colour on the inside of the bag at the top is nearer true, tho I dont intend to be anywhere near that dark.

Rust has been used as a dye for thousands of years, bricks/fabrics/crockery, and I'm 100% sure I can produce the amount I need, at home in the kitchen for free lol

What I dont want is a uniform block colour, to me that smacks of "Cast Concrete Block", you can use rust as a pigment in the concrete its self, or washed on unevenly, or dry brushed on and washed off, they do that on the more pricey house bricks you can buy.

But nothing is cast in stone yet (sorry for the pun) plenty of time to play, but I need to be thinking about how I'll be growing while the building work goes along, I'v got some very old planks of decking, so I'm thinking I should build 3 foot wooden raised beds to keep me growing, and build the block walls around them, so I can pull the wood out and top up the soil levels when I've got a gap in the growing season!

Pity you are hitting the "Imperial Vodka " (middle picture ) so soon into the project, there may be a few more problems ahead :snork:

        Thanks Harry, will do.

The Vodka is ok while painting latex, its just brick laying you cant mix it to much with, the spirit in the glass lies, the one in the level never does:lunapic 130165696578242 5:
