Orchids help

It is not unusual for orchids to sulk when moved to new surroundings.
Dendrobium is a huge genera - which one did you buy?
Raise the humidity straight away. Take a saucer, fill it with pebbles and water almost up to the top of the pebbles.

 

Its a

Dendrobium Tangerinum. I already have a saucer of water underneath it and mist it once or twice a day (when I remember). Ive read that they like alot of air movement so I also have a small fan running.​

It's a super tropical species. So I would guess that your home is too cool and too dry. Your best chance of success will be to build a vivarium (quickly), with thermostatic heat, artificial lighting if need be and a small fan that will operate on a timer. For the time being, a south facing bathroom with the heat turned up to 25/28°c will help.

I have a nasty habit of doing that, just get drawn in by the exotic or unusual.

Could you recommend a Dendrobium that is less tropical and where i may get it from? Thanks for all your advice you've been a big help.

 

Don't give up on it - you could get one of those placcy sweet jars, a few holes in the lid, gravel and water in the bottom and a warm spot.

Dendrobium phalaenopsis are the most forgiving.................

..............available pretty much everywhere from time to time. Keep an eye on Lidl in particular.

You may see a few Dendrobium nobile in the GC's at the moment...............


............probably most tolerant of average house conditions.

Den.kingianium (Berry Oda) is fairly widely available in the winter months. Needs cool north facing (lower light) room to bloom.


If you have the space there should be some cheap out of bloom Cymbidium in the GC's at the moment. Not a Den., but a great orchid anyway.
