    Ramsey at the top of the island. There's nothing attractive about the town itself so below a picture of the harbour road swing bridge, Victorian built and is currently out of use for repairs to it's gearing system.

    Looking up river from the harbour and bridge.

    Mooragh Park and lake, a lovely place for family entertainment during the summer months and the gardens are well tended here too. There's a children's water play area as well as a play area full of apparatus for them to climb and swing on, along with tennis courts, a bowls green, restaurant and café.

        Thanks Annie, it's a lovely walk around the lake although a bitterly cold one in the breeze that was blowing today.

              UK is dazzling. I get back and the most noticeable thing is the bit of having to be quiet. My parents live in a terrace in London with thin walls between neighbors on each side - and talk must be in hushed tones, any sound muted - like TV kept low to where I am annoyed by it - but that does really press home how boorish I have become by not having neighbors. Well; how boorish much of USA is really.

              My favorite place in UK is Orkney where I spent about six months - getting around a good bit. Some of your pictures remind me of that. I have spent a lot of time on history (I am re-reading Tacitus tight now) and cannot interest my self in American history at all - I forget how it is to be living in a place where thousands of years of civilization took place.

              You mentioned that as a reason for wanting to move, the sound from each dwelling, I would even find it hard to have a house within 300 foot of me now, but I am still able to feel very nostalgic for more civilized places.

              The video of the waterwheel was highly annoying to me - so many questions unanswered, why they would not even have occurred to the maker. Why is it so tall! I guess for the inertia, the flywheel effect - because it is fed low. Tell the tourist board to get a mechanic to make the next one so the details could be given - obviously some amazingly different systems were put into it. Then I remember 1858 being the date? That should be the steam age, so what was it all about? (I build things) But great fun - well done Manx.

                @colne

                Forgive me, I don't know how I missed your post above back in April! :doh:

                It's not so much the sounds from the dwellings but the neighbourhood as a whole......barking dogs, building work noise and the lady that lives at the back of my house that likes the sound of her own voice, she speaks so loudly! Although I live in a small village I hanker to get back to nature, open fields etc. My early years were spent surrounded by farmland and I guess that is something that never leaves a person. :)

                My apologies for the video, it's quite old and as you say needs updating. The steam age may have been in existence then but at that time not only was the island behind the times compared to the rest Of Britain, but the area in which the wheel is situated was probably not easily accessible to set up something steam powered.

                  Up at the base of Snaefell mountain on the TT course today.

                  Below is a life size statue of Joey Dunlop, created in commemoration after he lost his life road racing in Estonia. The building behind used to house the motorcycle museum which was moved a few years ago.

                  This representation of a Manx Loaghtan sheep has also recently appeared there. It stands at least twenty feet high.

                      Thanks Jenny. No, not the new Canon but the old one. My pictures today with the new one were a bit of a disaster, the wind on the mountain didn't help either, but no excuses, practice makes perfect! :)

                          crawl, walk, run. I admire you for taking a manual on board. I'm hopeless at reading, understanding and following instructions in manuals,

                            Down in the south of the island today and started off with lunch at Port Erin railway station. Sorry, I was to close to the station building to get a shot.

                            Cregneash historical village. Most of the cottages here are lived in all year round. The people that live here are in appropriate dress for the era and much of their daily lives revolve around the 19th century.
