I've heard something about this particle accelerator. Goes round and round and round until finally it disappears up its own ********.

I've got a carving of an oozlem bird. It sits on the mantlepiece so that it can't fulfil its destiny! :heehee:

I'm back to lazy snail browsing once more (using any of three browsers) with the added issue of sometimes being returned to the forum index page instead of going to the topic I clicked to view. Page load times are anywhere between 30 and 60 seconds and white pages are more common than GC pages.

All of my other browsing on other sites remain as fast as normal, only here is it slow.

You posted at Steve R, Yesterday at 7:43 PM I wonder if the site was busy then? (People previous reported dead-slow when lots of people were posting). Perhaps check the Who's On list if it happens again and "judge" if the list includes a lot of regulars who may be posting, rather than viewing?

          Just thinking out loud ...

I'm getting fairly good speeds but have had some 'white' pages today. The title comes up on the tab but the page is white.

Thanks Kristen, but I take such things into account. I reported this problem after the server switch, allowing a few days for propagation of DNS, then a few days longer too ensure the problem is not with myself. But the problem came back with the server switch as the switch happened, I just monitored the situation for a week before reporting.

When I turn on the PC I generally open two different browsers immediately, each has 6 or 7 tabs straight out for different sites, and I browse to many more. Needless to say I do not have any problems elsewhere, and the problems here happen at all times of the day, even when I logon at breakfast time (5 in the morning) and I am the only user online or one of a small handful of people.

Besides, relative speeds and amounts of users online would not explain why when clicking to view a page I'm taken back to the forum home page.

          Steve...:)

Well it's nothing at my end as this posting shows. I have registered this account to test and it is super fast and as it should be for my level of connection speed, So there is some setting on the Steve R account that is adrift, missing or otherwise/unknown.

The Webmaster mentioned when this happened before tweaking my portal settings so I would ask any admin to compare my settings on this account with the Steve R account and to please change the Steve R account to reflect the settings of Cumbrian Gardener.

As an aside, I wouldn't mind knowing why my settings differ from other peoples here, those who are enjoying the normal speed internet at GC as opposed to the very slow Steve R account.

            Many thanks!

            Steve...:)

Via personal message I asked Zig and he made a change to my account, which immediately speeded up this account, alas it lasted only for a couple of hours and I'm back to super slow once more.

BUT it should be fixable whatever it is so hopefully the Webmaster will succeed with it very soon.

If anyone messages me it can take me upto 20 mins before I can view that message so dont expect immediate replies from me.

            Steve...:)

Any idea what's "different" about your account Steve ?

I'm racking my brains, in a database sense, for what might be tunable that would not effect everyone ...
