Started collecting Wiegela "Bristol Ruby" seeds, today growing everything with a view to the seeds :D as the parcel was looking pretty sparse .With all this glorious sun we should get plenty collected for the later spin arounds,

I collected a load of Purple Sensation seeds last year once the seed heads had gone brown and dry - they started to pop open.

    Quick question?

Anyone had any problems with germination?

I had some Lupins that haven't germinated at all, was wondering if anyone has had any similar problems with any of the seeds...

Suppose it depends how old the seeds are...but when you are paying less to send the parcel on than you would for an average packet of seeds then I don't think it's a problem. I've sown a few offerings from the parcel and some have developed, some haven't.

What I'm saying - if I had paid money for each packet of seeds I might be annoyed at less than perfect germination results but for the minimal cost of postage I don't think it's a problem.

I tend to agree with Aaron there, I think most of what i sowed germinated ,
one or two were perhaps not too prolific, but if we all clearly mark anything which is a chance (which seems to be happening allready)
Its well worth the risk value wise and i personally get a lot of pleasure knowing we are all sharing, and if i have too many seeds i would only either :not collect them , or give them away

Yup, I have had mixed results with germination, some have been okay and some poor. Most of the seeds are out of date in the parcel, some date back to 2005, and thats the "sow by" date.

Its a great facility the seed swap, but I would hate to see it become a "dumping ground" for old seeds. It would be great to find a way to have it have newer seeds with better germination rates.

I tried 5 baby sweetcorn seeds that were in the parcel, I think they were sow by 2005 or 2006, well out of date and now have 3 well grown plants.
It can be a bit hit and miss, some 'fresh' seeds I tried didn't germinate at all, but I think it's all part of the fun
