You've probably got it sorted by now but in case anyone is interested...
I deal with pet insurance companies at work. Avoid Equestrian and Livestock (E&L) and Animal Friends and any policies underwritten by them (check smallprint). I've had loads of problems with them and if you google them you'll see I'm not the only one. Pet Plan are good but expensive and the supermarkets are generally good too.

What about routine booster jabs, Frontline flea treatment, worming tablets does the insurance cover these as well?

No Val, sadly not, or neutering. Usually they don't cover dentals or prescription food either.

About to pay a hefty vet bill my brother now wants to insure his 18 month old Jack Russell. I've read the previous posts and Petplan seems to come out top but has anyone experience of Tesco's please?

Sorry, no experience of Tesco ... but, just a reminder ... small print is everything!
Hope JR is ok after whatever treatment resulted in a hefty vet bill :doggieshmooze:

Thanks "M". :) The dogs name is Colbie and he's been very poorly this last week, we think it may be some sort of poisoning. He could have picked up something in the woods where my brother walks him. Colbie had improved slightly yesterday at the vets but I haven't heard from my brother today. Hopefully I'll know more tomorrow.

Healing vibes being sent Colbie's way: and in equal measure to the humans who are concerned for Colbie's welfare :doggieshmooze:

Thanks for the vibes "M". :) My brother only adopted him a few months ago and he's settled into the family very well, they'd be so upset if they lost him now.

Our friends cat was poorly a few months ago and the cat had to go to the vets and was put on a drip and kept in for a few days until he was hydrated and eating. Her and her hubby was presented with a hefty bill which they thought they would be able to claim against the pet insurance. They contacted their insureres only to be told that because the cat had had the same problem previously that they had claimed for then they could no longer claim for the same condition.:yikes:

Mr Kandy has a friend he works with who's dog has developed Diabetes so has to have insulin injections every day to keep it alive. The pet insurance won't pay her the full cost of the drugs will only pay for half of it.

I do hope your brothers dog makes a full recovery @Sheal and that he has him for many years to come:smile:

Thanks Kandy, as "M" says, it's wise to check out the small print on insurances to see what we get for our money.

Colbie is making good progress :) and was released from the vet's yesterday. He isn't 100% yet and has to go back for a check up on Thursday.

I've just re-read through this thread as I'm changing insurers. After a mini-fall out with Petplan, I'll likely go back to them today. I moved to pet-insurance.co.uk as they also offer lifetime policies at very good prices. However now my cat is about to turn 8, the renewal they've sent for her says that she'll now only be eligible for half of any payouts for any future claims. This went down not too well with me so I messaged Petplan on Facebook who said they'll put a pet on a lifetime policy if that policy starts before the pet is 10 years old. It'll come at more of a monthly cost to me but Petplan really are one of the best out there
