I've just renewed. I'll be paying twice as much as before but even with the exclusions for Reggie (food allergy/gastro-related) I'm happy I'm back with Petplan. It's also a factor for me knowing they're good at paying out, you never know how an insurer will be until you need money from them... ;)

We use Petplan , it was recommended by the kennel we bought Molly from . From the reports I have heard it does seem to be the best . Just hope we never need to claim .

I had a free month for both Mischief (via the cats protection when we adopted her) and for Reggie when I registered him at the vets as a pup. I had to claim on that free month for Reggie as we had to identify why he was poorly, it paid for all the tests we had done to identify his beef allergy. Because I didn't continue with that initial month's policy, they were a little restrictive shall we say about paying out, but they did once the vets stepped in on my behalf. In hindsight I wish I'd not moved from them, it wouldn't have changed any future gastro-related issues with Reggie of course but I know they're as good as insurers can be ;)

Pet Insurance is a big Con, Having been a breeder for 40 years or more I never met any one who has had value for money, and I have known hundreds of doggy people and most will tell you the same.
I would advise you how ever to put a little money by once a month. labeled my doggie fund.

I cannot recommend Pet Plan highly enough:blue thumb:...I've been with them for 20 years or more and had more than my moneys worth first with my old dog and now with these two herberts but thank fully this time around we haven't need them for a while but they've always paid out on the dot

Is insurance ever good value for money?
The sign up phone lines are open from early till late.
The claim lines are open from 9 till 5.

And they always take ages to pay out.

My friend's cat came home with a broken elbow over the weekend, it would have cost her hundreds in vet fees, it only cost her the excess to get it fixed. You could argue that you could put what you'd pay monthly for the premium into a savings account just in case, but it won't come close if there's an injury, or any long-running medication needs for things such as diabetes

Petplan didn't take too long to pay out for the claim for the tests etc for Reggie's food intolerance

Another thing that's handy these days is my vet does a direct claim so we don't have to pay out first:dbgrtmb:

Well it looks like Petplan is the way to go. Thanks everyone, I've passed the information onto my brother. :)

I dont have a dog now, pity, but when I did I had insurance through Direct Line.
They always took ages to pay out.

I considered Pet Plan at the time but the premiums were always pretty high.
I guess you only get what you pay for.

Premium price was the reason I left them. Now I'm back, and with more confidence than I had in the interim insurers :)

If you are very lucky, I personally rate them used car dealers.:doggieshmooze:
