How long ago was that strongy?
I've not seen a varigated carnosa but have heard or read of such, I think there are many rare types just waiting to make a comeback. [IMG]

The Lagerstroemia is the earliest I have known it this year, it must be the hot weather in July thats brought it into flower early. I have had it flower so late that the flowers dont open properly.
I had to climb onto the top of the conservatory roof to take this, as its now wedged itself between the end wall and the fence.

Lovely photo, Pete. I was reading that the roots can be used for stomach problems and the leaves can be used to make a tea for weight loss!

Thanks it is worth growing in a summer such as this one WAS, sadly its gone now. Just a shower of rain and the flower heads become so heavy they droop and come close to breaking off, hope it stays reasonably dry.

Pete haven't looked at this thread for a week or so, I had hoya carnosa about 12 years ago and I can't remember what happened to it. I have not seen one since.
BTW this is the bougainvillea glabra(glossy leaf) that I mentioned, this is the only pic I have, I think it is Elizabeth Angus but I am not positive,
It is the hardiest one I know.

I like this one its chilopsis linearis, The desert willow, it seems hardy and in a good summer comes up with these flowers, it really likes the lack of rain.

Beautiful, Pete ... it should do well with me then. I've made a note of the name but don't know if I can get it here. What sort of an establishment did you buy it from?

The desert willow L of L, from my usual source, Seed.
Its related to the catalpa, and grows in the deserts of USA, I think it would be perfect for you.
