Ok, I get that. Now put yourself in the shoes of that "individual". Their face appears in their *local* community as a part of name and shame. What, then, are your choices? You stay? More likely, you *move*!!!

Now, the "new" community, knows nothing about you because all exposure was localised; yet, you (as an individual) still have a hankering to perpetrate your "thing". So, history repeats itself because (in today's globalised world, where travel is easy and "drifting" is easily accessable) the *new* "local community" does not know of the past name-and-shame campaign. Thus, the argument is flawed, despite the good intentions behind it.

Equally, your argument is based on a "stagnant" community, where everyone knows everyone and there are no newcomers and everyone looks out for one another and everyone knows one another. Times have changed (to the detriment!).

No, my argument is based on being a deterrent. I commit a ghastly act, and everyone will know.

With deepest respect, Freddy, that is only a part of your argument; the "management" of your argument is based on a localised name and shame policy.

True. But, if I were the perpetrator of such an act, and supposing such an act would give me 'street cred', would I not be loathed to have to build up that same 'street cred' somewhere else? As I said, I don't have all the answers, I leave that to those much more intelligent than myself. I just think that 'society' has put up with this for too long, that's all.

I actually like Pete's idea, put 'em in the stocks!:)

Cherub, if you were the perpetrator, with your morals and ethics, then clearly that would suffice. And, I agree, society has indeed put up with things for far too long! However, the reality is, we are no longer a self sufficent island; we have to kow-tow to other laws, ethics, moral judgements. In addition, the "world" is getting smaller and a localised name and shame policy is no longer a force to be reckoned with. Oh that is were still so!

Yeah, stock it to 'em :heehee:
