OK - if your car is registered on or after 1st March 2001 you are affected. Look on your log book, it should tell you your emissions. Now look here and see what the new cost of a tax disc is compared to your old one.

I've got a VW Passat 1.9 TDI and the cost for me doesn't really change:thumb:

So, what will replace the car.

Or are we all going to go back to the days of waiting for a bus in the pouring rain, getting soaked riding a bike, collecting firewood in the woods to keep warm, clearing the frost off the inside of the windows in the mornings, listening to the radio by candlelight maybe.

We aint got much to look forward to have we.

Think I'll be extravigant, and buy a new cave.:D

My 1st and most used car is a 1995 SUBARU Impreza STi Full 3" decat exhaust from turbo to back box, with fuel glugging anti lag under 20 mpg and only pre emision £185 per year. Flames bangs and emissions galore ....HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA.:p

Weekend car New SUBARU MY06 STi 25mpg+ and substantially less emissons £440 per year:eek::rolleyes:

Makes no sense at all. All road tax should be collected through petrol tax...usage should equal liability in my view. My vehicles used in the 2k miles a year I do is far less poluting than a commuter doing 15k miles a year in a vehicle half as poluting:)

Everyone should have the right to drive whatever car they like and if its a sporty non PC car for a weekend blat then why should that incur a hefty taxation bill just becasue the owner can 'afford' it. I bet if I ragged a 1litre fiesta like I do my subaru it wouldn't be very emission friendly!

Truth is people are ignorant to the implications of this kind of policy and use it as a means of bashing those that enjoy driving. Very often its prejudice about the drivers rather than the cars spouting headline names like chelsea tractor and 4x4 etc. Normal drivers are going to be the ones that get clobbered and the fact that a car is 4x4 means nothing if you know anything about cars:D

If this were a proper environmental tax it would have started with air travel !

I agree entierly with kandy, I run a 54 reg transit and a 53 plate Nissan Navara double cab. I use the van for most of my work but for a percentadge of the time i need to either go off road or tow heavy loads.

The pickup for me is not a fashion acessoriy its simply a workhorse, If I wanted a fashion vehicle then it would be an impretza.

No way a 2 wheel drive will shift 2.8 tons of trailer plus a dozen power toolcases, hand tools and often a mixer up lanes too narrow for loory deliverys and with a severe gradient.

What riles me is the fact that when i trade it in next year for a either 56 or 57 plate rodeo or discovery ill get shafted with a £400 road tax bill despite being a more eficent engine.

All the high prices and tax meen is an increase in the cost of everything and a situation were british manufacturing becomes unneconomic meaning that we inturn import more goods thus causeing unnemployment.

Oh and try driving anything less than a 2.0 litre petrol in the roads around here, a 1.4 is alright in town but makes for a dangerouse overtake as you dont have any power.

^^^ We hired a 1 litre fiat one year when we holiday'd in wales, and I swear it refused to go further than a few meters up certain parts of the valleys around where we were visiting.

Later this week I am changing my 8 year old car for the brand new version of it :thumb:. The old car will remain with a £185 tax band although it has to be less efficient and more polluting than the new one. The new one is in the £400 tax band . This is just another form of taxing us whilst trying to pretend it is for the environment .

The other stupid thing about it is that if I bought exactly the same car as a manual version instead of automatic the tax would be £200

I think we are all aware that Road Fund License revenue, does not go to improving roads....you only have to drive on them to know that. Flamin holes and bumps everywhere to ruin your steering and suspension.:(

I think we are also aware that increasing said Tax, will not take these vehicles off the road...they also know that....so they come up with a silly reason for doing it.

It's just another stealth tax and it doesn't matter who is in Government as they all do it. The VAT tax increase proved that. Who are the losers...the GP. Who is the beneficiary...the Government.

The governments around the world don't want 'going green" to be cheaper...think of all the lost revenue.

    Rant over at present.:thumb:

I believe that it is no good compalining unless we are prepared to put our discontent to the so called Government.
