I heard last week on Radio 5 live that there is a crisis all round the world due to poor harvests because of the weather we all have been having last year etc. Some parts of Australia havn't had rain for years, the Chinese people are starting to have more wealth than previously so they are demanding the same things as the Western World which is all having a knock on effect with goods having to be bought from other countries and shipped over here, then there is the problems in America with their credit crunch and so it goes on and on.

We do our grocery shopping every two weeks and each time we go the food bill has gone up. There are people on here far brainier than me that can answer all these questions but as far as I can make out things are getting rough for the whole planet economy wise and it is going to get worse, but then we have had these problems in the past so it could be the cycle of things:eek:

Hi Pro, I think if you look at the car tax levels you'll find that the Discovery is £400 at the moment but will rise to £900

On the plus side, diesel is slightly cheaper here by 5-8 pence so £1.10-£1.13 per litre. :)

Thanks, thats really depressed me now!!!

I find it utterly crazy that someone like me who lives in the sticks and needs a powerfull disel truck for towing should be hammerd in road tax.

Even more so that when upgrading to an almost new vehicle that will be more eficent and will meet the new emmision standards that I will end up paying more than with an older less eficent engine.

Its ironic that the higest fuel prices are in rural areas were folk need to use cars the most.

Thanks Slinky:thumb: wouldn't have wanted you to think I was having a go at you.I must stop rushing about all the time:rolleyes::D

Gogs round here it seems that it is the garages in the middle of the towns that are putting up the prices.Mr Kandy filled up in Tesco's this morning and paid £44 odd when he filled up.He paid at the pump so didn't ask the machine for a receipt so don't know off the top of my head how much he put in the tank.I wrote down the pump prices as Diesal £1.26.9 per litre..Unleaded £1.14.9 per litre and Super unleaded as £1.19.9 per litre...:( If we had gone to Morrisons where I filled up it is still £1.23p per litre and when we went past later they were queing outside of the garage to get on the forecourt.

Don't know about rural prices as the only one we have round here is closed for refurbishment for ten weeks.:(

I saw on the front of a newspaper this morning that a lot of truckers are decending on London tomorrow in protest of the rises....

I live in an urban area, and I work in an urban area, unfortunatly to get from one urban area to the other involves going throught a country area.
Public transport it lousy between these two places, probably two busses and a train involved just to get somewhere near the place, plus they dont run early enough for me to get to work on time.
And it would take me about an hour longer each way.

So...... Id just like to say that its not just the country folk that are feeling the fuel price hikes.
I know the prices are a few P dearer out in the sticks, but believe me, its worth it, trust me.:)

I had an email today asking me to mail 10 friends and ask them to boycott Esso and BP. In turn they must email the same number of folk ,and so on..Only buy from other petrol stations and the price of fuel will drop. The mailer has calculated if we all comply the price will drop to by 70 pence per litre within days!!
I have passed this email on to other members of G-Corner so let's see what happens.
I'm prepared to go along with it....it 's got to be better than breaking the economy with stupid anti government road blocks by multi mega buck lorry rigs!

Pal, That emails been going around for months!

Unfortunatly the flaw in it is that the supliers are all suplied from one refinary/ suplier, the only differance is the branding on the loorys and the aditives.
