Oh well looks like we shall have to not visit too much of the island when we go over, this is our 8th time so it isn't that we havn't been before but we like to drive to some good spots ready to start our walks.Perhaps we ought to take our bikes with us:rolleyes: Thanks for forewarning us:thumb:

Shiney the Yanks always come up with the best ones:D

Mr Kandy has just got up so have told him about the prices. His reply was 'Not the best time to go over there for a holiday then is it' too late though we have just paid for the ferry so don't want to cancel it now:rolleyes:

When they had the fuel protest the other year {2000?} we were on our way down to St Davids in Pembrokeshire we were quiet worried about not being able to cross the seven bridge because the lorry drivers were talking about blockading it.We got over ok and then found we couldn't fill up with petrol because the garages had all ran out.In that week we drove seven miles and walked the rest of the time.We didn't mind that but it meant we couldn't go off and explore other parts of the area we were staying in.

By the end of the week we were allowed £5 worth of fuel per day and we estimated that if we didn't drive any where we would have enough fuel to get us home all bar 40 miles.Mr Kandy's dad said if we had problems he would meet us on the motorway with a can of fuel but luckily for us we managed to find a garage on the way back so could fill up.:)

We do have some adventures, perhaps I ought to write a book about them:thumb:

On the face of it Pal it does seem a good idea.

However, although the pump prices are rising, its a global thing.
The main problem we have is a UK thing, namely TAX, a very greedy government that is on the ropes and fighting to stay credible.

Its the government that is creating MOST of our problems, price wise.

I wonder what will be done with the extra money they have gained due to the tax rise brought about by the oil price rises, which weren't budgeted for, perhaps we will get another half a dozen "state of the art" hospitals built.

If it was to work and if it was to be legal over here, then I suppose we would have different coloured water, and woe betide anyone out there that was running their car on red water.:D

Or perhaps they'd make it so that the red stuff was the fuel, that way we could still drink the coulourless stuff.

I'm not sure that the government can take any action that won't be cancelled out in fairly short order. In the USA a while back at least one State decided to cut the tax on 'gas'. All that happened was the petrol companies put the price up over the following weeks to compensate. I'm sure that's what would happen in the UK also.

A couple of thoughts about petrol prices. The first is that the HUGE increase in the price of oil is less to do with tax, and more about the markets speculating on oil availability in the next few years. As far as I understand it, there isn't any lessening of oil output at the moment. As this is a global market, there is nothing any one government can to to stop this speculation. Even if they could, it would be 'intervening in the free market' which is of course, anathema.

The second is that oil production will begin to decrease over the next decades, and so the cost will only increase in the long run. I can only hope that this means governments and industry will start thinking very seriously about how we wean ourselves off the oil economy. And quickly.

The point is the govement continues to charge an extremly high rate of duty when the price per barrel of crude has rocketed. In other countries the goverments levy less in fuel duty.

Of course certain other countries dont waste money hand over fist on ilegal wars, helping imigrants, pushing forward political corectness, milenium dome, olimpics, id cards etc .......

....And yet they still have roads in a better state and public transport that works.
