Perhaps more awareness of the time, effort, patience, that Woo takes with everything he does, including the Photo Competition, might lead to less unfounded and uninformed criticism.:dunno::snorky:

Absolutely! I make no bones about admitting that I have an unreserved respect for @wiseowl and his work in resect to the photo comps; I certainly could not live up to his high standards.

However, I truly believe that his efforts are more appreciated than he knows (I suppose likes on this thread will tell.. hint, hint....), and that our photo comps have so much more scope in these fast and modern times.

Ok, enough is enough. I have apologised to woo for any personal upset my comments may have caused him, most genuinely but, my remarks were never aimed *at* him, nor were they critiquing *him* or his running of the competitions! :nonofinger: So, no "unfounded" or "uninformed" criticism of woo occurred.

I think I have, just a tad, more then an inkling of how much time, effort and patience volunteering takes - in whatever form that volunteering might be, having spent many a year "volunteering" in a number of areas (including moderating a forum!) - yet, I'm seeing that my comments regarding the competition are rapidly being twisted into some kind of personal attack/critique of woo! That was never the intention, nor the root of my comments! As stated on at least two occasions in above posts.

For the record: I totally agree @wiseowl does a grand job with the competitions. I completely respect, and admire, the time, commitment and dedication he puts into his role in running the competitions. I extend that to all the volunteer Moderators.

My perspective on the competitions may differ from other's; I respect others see things differently to me. That's fine, that is what makes the world an interesting place to be. I ask only that my comments are not taken out of context to become a show of disrespect for woo. That most definitely isn't "friendly", nor clever. :nonofinger:

@wiseowl for the last time, and the most sincere I could possibly be: I WAS NOT HAVING A POP AT YOU!!!! I am mortified that my comments were interpreted by you as demoralising - that was never my intention. Besides which, you haven't run the competition for the past 5 years so how could they have been aimed at you personally?! :dunno: If I could turn back time, how different things could be. I wouldn't change my mind, necessarily, but I would definitely have kept my thoughts to myself ;)

Dear Admin (generally!) Please do not confuse critiquing a situation with critiquing an individual. There is a difference.

Now, if you don't mind, I made my comments; they caused offense. I have apologised, most sincerely, to the person who appears to be most affected. Let's now agree to disagree and move the discussion on! No more digs required; you've made your point, LOUD and clear! ;)

@"M" Trouble is, your comments have actually upset more people than you think, which is such a shame, as the photo competition is really only a bit of a lark - not all that serious to make a fuss about.

Actually, "M", it wasn't aimed at you. It was aimed at future critics who speak first without considering what the Competition entails for the person running it.

Again, "M" there were no digs aimed at you. If I was aiming a comment at anyone I would name them. But, if I may, when criticism is aimed at whatever project is being run by an individual on GC, be it Admin or not, the person making that criticism should realise that it is personal and hurtful to that individual who has put in such time, effort and enthusiasm into it. So, because of that effort and love put into whatever competition/project it is aimed at, the criticism will also automatically target the person behind the project/competition:dunno::doh:

So, no digs at you in my post. Everyone, I think, understands your thinking and what's done is done.....move forward.:dunno::snorky:

Shall we all, now, ignore this thread and move on, as "M" has said?

If it becomes necessary to discuss future, possible, competitions (or alterations to existing competitions) we can do it elsewhere. :grphg:

OK - we have re-opened this thread, with the hope that it can return to its originally intended purpose, which is to discuss the changes to the photo comps, and also to give everyone the opportunity to share any ideas that they might have.

There is to be NO further discussion of prior events or comments please, as they are not relevant nor constructive in what should be a positive discussion as to how we continue to support an important part of our forum.

If anyone has a problem with this, either report my post and the remainder of the staff team will deal with it as they see fit, or drop me a PM and we can discuss things. Thank you for your co-operation.

Is there enough interest from GC'ers to have the Macro thread returned to competition status, perhaps with a yearly result? It seems to have lost it's way since becoming an ordinary thread.

This is last years @Tetters, there is a new one for 2018. It is for images taken with a Macro lens or Macro adjustment on your camera. It gives greater detail on images, some of which are difficult to see with the human eye.

                      NEW MACRO THREAD FOR 2017

Morning @Sheal the reason it was abandoned was lack of interest ,in the end it just fizzled out and died, same with the Enhanced photo Comp and many others our good friend @Marley Farley and myself tried without success but it is open for discussion and we can go from there my friend:smile:

Well, I had a look at the thread - thank you @Sheal - and the results with a macro lens are very obviously amazing. Unfortunately though a bit too specialised for the likes of me. I think you have to have photography as a main hobby (or even employment) and with the easy peasy automatic gadgets we have available today most people are in too much of a rush with other pastimes to be bothered.
I have to say @martin-f contributed wonderful snaps of water droplets :wow:

I often wish I could nominate various photos posted by members on other threads to the competition, as I think some members are hesitant and don`t think they are ''good enough''
Some of those photos are much much better than some of the rubbish I enter.
It would be good to have a button to indicate ** potential prizewinner **

Thank you @wiseowl. :)I hadn't realised it had got to that point. Perhaps it isn't worth the hassle of reviving it then.

It's not really specialised @Tetters as the camera does most of the work. If you have a Macro camera it's possible to point and shoot pretty much like any other shot but close-up. :)

The focusing here is not great but it gives you an idea of the detail it produces.

Something I will definitely have to look into I think.... photography has never been an interest to me, and I`m only just past my brownie 127 days, but looking at the images (like the one above) now I find fascinating.
